Halfway through my first tin. Smoking too aggressively will cause a wet smoke, but as long as you pack it right and smoke slowly, it's a cool, dry, easy smoke, even on a windy day. Tin note and room note are both very pleasant. A mild to medium flavor of fruit, maybe apricot, and I can barely catch a hint of vanilla in the background. As far as aromatics go, this is one of the better ones out there. Maybe not something to lose your mind over, but definitely worth the money paid for it. It's good enough that I'll keep a tin or two around for when I'm in the mood for some. I give it 3 stars, as I reserved 4 stars for the truly exceptional.

The grassy, citrusy Virginia forms the base of the blend. The nutty, molasses sweet burley is more of a condiment. The dry, woody Oriental is in the background. The unsweetened black cavendish offers a little brown sugar. The various fruit toppings are sweet with a slight sour, tanginess, and floralness. It's hard to pick out what they all are, but I do sense a touch of apricot. The vanilla very mildly underscores the experience. There is a hint of alcohol to the toppings, which do tone down the tobaccos a bit. The nic-hit is very mild. Won’t bite or get harsh. Burns cool at a reasonable pace with a little inconsistency in flavor at times. Leaves a little moisture in the bowl, and needs an average number of relights. has a decent after taste. Is almost an all day smoke.

Anymore, I don't rate aromatic blends on taste (because someone is bound to think that the specific taste suits them), but on quality. By quality, I mean how it smokes, because after all, that is what can make or break an aro blend.
This tobak is extremely well behaved. Smokes cool, dry, and, as far as I can tell, is fairly natural tasting. Cased with a fun fruit/vanilla/caramel topping that I prefer especially in the warm weather. PLUS, where I live, it's really cheap ($6.59 per tin).
Can't go wrong.

On my second tin of MidDay and am very happy. The smell and taste is quite pleasant albeit a bit strong. That works in your favor when the tin is unsealled and your two weeks into it. MidDay lasting power in this case means the underlying tobacco is also coming forth and its quality is sufficient so that the strong aromatic is not masking a harsh blend. It burns cleanly and does not bite. Biting with aromatics are an issue for me as I am a heavy puffer.
Previously I have been using stanwell melange (which is also good) and I've been very happy to add MidDay to my rotation.
I would recommend this to all level of aromatic smokers; notice to established.
I also enjoy pinching a bit of MidDay into my straight Viginia blends on occassion. (Ex. McClelland Blackwoods Flake tufted out and left to air out for a day or two with a pinch of MidDay)

I have grown beyond looking down my nose at a tobacco just because it is aromatic. Heck, there are even aromatics that have gone on to become some of my favorite blends; though there are not many of these tobaccos, Villiger Mid-Day is certainly among them.
It is nice to come upon an aromatic that manages to deliver exactly what is promised in the description on the label. They say that Mid-Day will taste of vanilla and of exotic fruit and, by jiminy, that's just what you get. The flavor is strong, pungent, right up in your face. At times it was less like I was smoking a pipe and more like I was eating a cream pie with caramel drizzled all over the top. This often isn't what I'm looking for when I light up, but it was amusing enough, all the same, and I have no doubt that this would be an aromatic smoker's wet dream (not to be crass).
What makes Villiger Mid-Day a success in terms of an oh-so sweet aromatic is that it tastes as sweet as it smells and that it smokes very cool throughout. It also really doesn't seem to smoke as wet as other German-type aromatics, which is something further to its credit. I am sure that this is accomplished by the fact that there is good, decent tobacco under all of that highly effective casing. This shows that the manufacturer didn't simply fill the tin with garbage leaf and suppose that the sauce would mask any imperfections.
Everybody should try this stuff at least once. Not everybody will love it, but I believe it would be hard not to at least respect this blend and the company who made it. It has succeeded where a seemingly endless host of junk aromatics have failed.

Now this is a very pleasant well done aromatic IMO. The topping is a refreshing mix of fruit and vanilla, both of which are discernible. Although there is some oriental component in the mix, I couldn't really tell which or much about it as the topping really takes the lead in the blend. I am sure it adds something to the blend, I really just can't identify it or any of the underlying leaf.
This is truly an aromatic and the topping does not really wane as one progresses down the bowl. The room note is fantastic. I received a few compliments on the notes at a pool party I recently attended.
I had a hard time trying to decide between three or four stars. I opted to jump to four stars as this really was a pleasure to smoke. I will happily return after I pop my next tin. I have three in the cellar.

A pretty decent tobacco. It smells kind of juicy and fruity in the tin, packs well and holds a light very well. It smokes clean and fairly cool and I can't find any technical flaws in the actual smokability of this.
The flavoring is OK, but kind of tastes like it's mashed together and isn't strong enough to really turn the smoke into something flavorful. Instead, it seems more like a subtle hint of the different flavors. I got compliments on the aroma and there was no pipe fouling or liquid if I used one or two Denicool crystals in the bottom of the bowl.
It's not the best aromatic I've ever had but it's one of the better ones. It's definitely worth a try!

My goodness, this is some very heavily cased and flavored tobacco. It is considerably more than I am used to in the casing department. It is clear that the underlying tobaccos are decent quality. It didn't bite me at all. That is a plus for sure. Most tobaccos with much less casing bite me like a rabid wolverine.
I give this tobacco two and a half stars. The flavoring is simply way to much for my tastes. A smoker that prefers aromatic smokes would possibly find this exceptional. I get that. I've cellared my tin in hopes that the casing tames down in a few years.
If you are a lover of aromatic smokes, then this one is probaly a must try smoke. It is smooth and doesn't bite at all. It isn't exactly my cop of tea, but then again it is good tobacco and may be the perfect smoke for someone else. I prefer more straight tobacco smokes without sweet flavorings or casings.

Well, I picked up several tins of this when Thompson Cigar was running a deal a few months back. If I had reviewed it then, I would probably have given one star. The tin aroma was beautiful--like sweet vanilla caramel. However, it was very moist and I had trouble keeping it lit. The casing seemed way too heavy for me, it smoked hot, bit the hell out of my tongue, there was lots of gurgle in my pipe, and the whole experience gave me buyer's remorse. I gave a couple tins away figuring there was no reason to keep this disappointing aromatic around. Now this evening, I picked up that first tin which I had opened a few months ago. It had been sitting around on a shelf in the basement and it had dried out just a bit--and Oila! It lit well, burned beautifully, and the flavor was lovely. Sweet and toasty with lots of vanilla. There was zero gurgle in the pipe and the smoke was rich and luxurious. About half-way through the bowl I could taste less of the casing and more of the cavendish and virginias and a bit of nice nutty burley. It reminded me of Carter Hall. I still got some bite, but not as bad as the first time I smoked it. It didn't burn super-hot either. This is a good "sipping" tobacco. Puff it and rue it! Sip it gently and it yields rich rewards. I'm glad I didn't give all of my tins away because this will be a regular for me when I want to enjoy a good aromatic.

A wonderfully rich aromatic characterized by a tasty blend of tobaccos (which are accentuated, not masked, by the added flavorings), a delightful room note that everyone seems to enjoy, and a dry, but tasty, smoking experience. I'd almost say that it even benefits from DGT. Coming back to an unfinished bowl hours later yields no diminishing of flavor or aroma.

This is the best aromatic I have had yet! Just got my tins and this was the first I tried. In the tin the vanilla was in your face. Even tho it was strong it did not turn me away. The vanilla was true vanilla not some lab made vanilla. Right out of the tin the tobacco was sticky with long strands. The false light was full of vanilla for me and sweet. The true light was more of the same, after a bit you start getting some lite tobacco flavor and what I thought was apricot? then back to sweet vanilla. No bite, no bad flavors or anything harsh about this smoke. Take it slow and enjoy and it will burn cool and sweet. No goop and no mess.

Very impressed. Cheap so thought it would be bad. Great classic aro smel- vanilla caramel, raisin like, liquor smell, touch of coconut. Burned very smooth, slight salty taste, smooth tobacco taste, nice room note.
Despite the heavy casing/flavor a nice toasty tobacco flavor comes through when smoking. No problem with tongue bite. This blend is well worth a try if you are a seasoned aromatic smoker or a new smoker. A tobacco lovers aromatic. And I have to add, especially for the price. Apparently this blend is new to the market and at the time of this writing it is priced to move.

It's not the kind of thing I smoke every day, or when I'm at home with a good book. It's the kind of thing I grab on the way to a party or going to see a group of friends. The flavor is pleasant enough, but the room note is absolutely out of this world! This would be a two or three star tobacco, except for all of the compliments I got from Women, friends, and non-smokers. People I didn't know would crowd closer to enjoy in the fruity, dreamy ambrosia wafting from the bowl. A good "conversation starter" in social settings, to say the least, and a quick way to make new friends. Smoke slowly, and avoid the bite, but smoke plenty, and turn some heads!

This stuff has got to be made by Pöschl Tobak . It has those flavors of a toned down Radfords Sundays fantasy and the like . I would imagine alot of new smokers have tried this blend being it's new itself and everyone wants to try something that hasnt been out for a hundred years or whatever . this one wont be around for a hundred years but thats ok . Are far as it's smoking qualities .. it smokes fine . Easy to light and keep going . No complaints . The flavor is overly sweet for me ... I'd like it if it were toned down about 50% . I get maple [ kind of ] and Vanilla but no fruits . I can see enjoying this every now and then but not daily , for sure . It's big plus is it smoke easy and dry and isnt a wet aro . I'd give this a higher mark if I liked the flavoring , which I feel is over done ... but you may love the flavoring ... and if ya did it would probably deserve 3-4 stars .

I have shied away from aromatics in most cases, having found only a few that really deliver a good smoke. Usually the tobacco can't stand up to the topping, and as I definitely tend to prefer VAPers and VA flakes, most of them are too light on flavor, body, and strength to suit me. In fact, I have definitely begun to gravitate toward very strong, rich, natural tobaccos, but this is one that I would say could actually stand to have more topping. I say that because I find the vanilla/marshmallow/fruit aromas and flavors of this blend delectable, and they are more muted than I would like.
That said, this is a killer aromatic smoke. The tobacco is of very nice quality, and it is smooth, gentle, and well-behaved. It smells amazing and tastes wonderful. I find that the sweetness really begins to develop after a few minutes, but at no point is it overwhelming, nor does it ever overpower the natural tobacco flavor. There is never a question (as I have had with so many sweet aromatics in my dark past) of whether there is actually any tobacco in the bowl.
Of course, this stuff is also a great value. It is far, far less expensive than other blends of this quality, and I think it might just be impossible to beat for the price. If you are an aromatic smoker, this is a fantastic blend. If you (think you) are not, give it a shot anyway. It's good stuff.

Villiger 1888 Mid-Day is a pleasant and well-behaved aromatic tobacco.
Upon opening the tin, 1888 Mid-Day presents itself as a visually appealing mixture of both light and dark ribbon-cut tobacco. Burley, Virginia, and a tobacco processed by the Cavendish method are present. A prominent and pleasant scent of caramel dominates the mixture in the tin, with a background of melon and a piquant aroma of fermentation. It would be hard to find a tobacco with a more appetizing scent.
Moisture content of this tobacco is ideal, with the leaves holding together for a short time after being pinched and exhibiting no breakage or powdering. Lighting is even and effortless, and burning characteristics are excellent and consistent.
Smoking taste is mildly sweet and nutty with occasional and fleeting hints of a peppery spice. As with nearly all aromatic tobaccos, the scent in the tin does not resemble the actual taste delivered when smoking, but 1888 Mid-Day is a pleasant and accommodating tobacco.
If this tobacco were personified, it might become a middle-aged man with a career in diplomacy. It presents an agreeable face to the person who smokes it as well as the people who surround him. The room note of this tobacco is wonderful, and it should not be surprising if people come up to you while you are smoking and ask you what it is.
The only negative point of this tobacco is that it becomes sharp and oppressive on the palate at the very end of a smoke, so it is best to discard the last bit of dottle from your pipe when the characteristics of the smoke begin to change. The ash produced from this tobacco is fine and gray, with a slight stickiness to it, but it doesn't seem to foul a pipe even if you smoke with an impatient draw or under windy conditions.
This tobacco also travels well, and seems like a good blend to smoke when you are out in public. It is pleasant for both the smoker and the bystander, except for those people who are simply opposed to observing any tobacco-related enjoyment in their fellow travelers.
Villiger 1888 Mid-Day is a tobacco I recommend, and it is also the tobacco my wife enjoys smoking the most in her pipes.

Villiger, Mid Day… Most of my reviews of aromatic blends, I have to force myself to stay objective when describing their character, as I much prefer a straight blend. But this one is different, it's an aromatic, and I like it. This is my second Villiger blend i've tryed of the three available. I found their Late Night, excellent, now this one, also excellent. I just may try their third entry, Early Day.
Well mannered with no bite, good burn characteristic and no goop, a nice trio for an aromatic. As for the flavor, there is plenty of it; you'll not be disappointed in that department, some sweetness but no particular flavor seems to dominate for very long, they just swing by. IMHO a very well crafted blend, for those that enjoy a ARO from time to time. My personal rating 2.5/5

Taste is good pick up Vanilla all the way through the bowl good blast of fruit also. I have found a site that has a good deal on this and will be getting 5 tins for around 25 bucks it is a keeper

About a week ago I bought several tins of tobaccos I had not tried. This is the only one that is almost gone.
Smells fantastic in the can, almost like butterscotch. I've been tempted to put a pinch in my mouth. Lights fine on the first try and stays lit - no need for the pre-light. Tastes great all the way to the bottom.
This tobacco has taken over my GBD Super Q. I keep the tin and the pipe together so I can grab them on the way out the door and smoke while I drive, something I had not been in the habit of doing previous to the discovery of this delicious satisfier.
==== UPDATE ==== Toward the end of the tin, I loved it a little less, so it loses a star. Its still great and the scent is a chick-magnet.

This blend is my favorite from the series. The tobacco smells like you should be able to eat it straight from the can. This is a must try for anyone who is a fan of vanilla aeromatics. All three of these blends smoke completely differently and i would recommend all three they are definitely a great experience for different reasons the Early Day, Mid Day, and Late Night all were worth the price and a try.

Let me start out by saying that I enjoy aromatics, but I have a soft side for quality blends such as PS English Luxury, Escudo, Bulls Eye Flake, to name a few.
This is my favorite blend. I'm always disappointed when I get to the bottom of the bowl. This tastes sooooo good, I love the flavor of marshmallows, vanilla, and hint of bourbon.
If you enjoy quality aromatics, or you're looking for a new blend to try, check this blend out.
