I had very high expectations for this one, and not that i was disapointed or anything.....its just not what i thought. Its fairly sweet, the latakia is well masked by something, which i cant put my finger on.The room note is pleasant and it burns relatively cool. The tobak itself was a little dry for my liking but it packed and burned well. Ill up date this review once it breathes a bit in the cabinet. All in all its definatly smokable, just not fantastic.

The Cyprian latakia was smoky, woodsy and a little sweet in the background. The Virginias were a little grassy and earthy with a light sweetness, and formed the base of the blend. The Oriental/Turkish was smoky, woody with a little sweetness, a little spice, a hint of cocoa and a couple sour notes in a small support role. Not sure about the topping, but I think it was rum. The nic-hit was mild. Didn't bite or get harsh. Burned slightly fast and a little warm so it needed to be puffed at a moderate rate. Had a consistent flavor for the most part, and left little moisture in the bowl. Needed an average number of relights. Was an all day smoke. Two and a half stars.

I am somewhat surprised that I have not reviewed this famous old delicious classic. I've smoked both the Middleton and Kentucky Club versions but never had a shot at the old American Tobacco Company production. As good as it gets regarding "drugstore" type blends and certainly right up there with Walnut as an English style "Druggie." High quality, rich and smoky Latakia, fine, tart and spicy Orientals, and Virginia leaf in short ribbon cut form and as naturally sweet as one will taste. Combined, the presentation was sinfully delicious, cool and dry from first puff to last. Again, IMO, one of the all-time great "drugstore" blends.
