Stanwell Classic
(2.25)
An exquisite mixture blended from mature Virginia, and mellow black cavendish, we have added a gently pressed and fermented cut plug made from Virginia and burley. The mixture is perfected with a touch of sweet plum aroma, which creates a unique smoking experience for the most demanding pipe smoker.

Is good , but not that good. Is tasty, but not that tasty. Is pleasant, but.... you know the drill... If you are curious - is interesting. But that's all!

Stanwell - Classic.
I was unaware of Stanwell tobacco's until I stumbled upon this one night whilst on The Danish Pipe Shop's website. I love to try something new (to me) so ordered some and here's my thoughts:
The pouch doesn't smell that aromatic, there's maybe a delicate fruitiness but nothing more. There's less Black Cavendish than the other two varieties: the pouch has about 25% BC in it. The ribbons are fairly chunky, with a good water content.
Now the actual smoke: when I first light a bowl of this the only added taste I get is plum. For the first few minutes of my initial pipe-full I thought they were lying about the coffee and brandy; give them time! When they do come to the fore they aren't as strong as the plum, but for my palate they are discernable.
For me, one of the great points about this is the smoke's build and temperature: extremely cool and brilliantly thick; that's something I adore!
The nicotine feels pretty mild from this; actually it's really mild!
For me, the only negative is the speed of the burn: if it's not taken easily it can be over in a flash!
I'm glad I came across this; it's a cracking smoke!
Highly recommended.

Plum and moist out of the tin; an assorted ribbon cut pleasing to the eye with plump yellow aged VA. Packs well with immediate sense of a balanced blend. Bowl aroma OK, not exceptional. A steady enjoyable smoke to the bottom. Can smoke this regularly. Easy 3 Star.

I bought this in a pinch. I had run out of my favorite leaf (Stanwell Jubilee), and the tobaccoonist had as well. I figured I couldn't go wrong with a Stanwell blend called "Classic". Upon opening the tin, I was greeted with a pleasant Aroma reminding me of raisins. The moisture Content was just right, and the cut makes filling your pipe rather easy. The tobacco packs well and lights up on 2 matches. It burns well, leaving no dottle. The taste is pleasantly sweet, without overpowering the natural tobacco taste. The room note is a bit smokey, not as sweet as with some of Stanwell's other aromatic blends. It is certainly in no way offensive, but not as much of a crowd pleaser. My recommendation: Stanwell Classic is a good standby for smokers of aromatics. It is not a complex smoke, but neither is it bland. It can be smoked without problems by novice and expert alike.

The plum flavor really comes out in this. It is just a little bitey. That is going to keep it from getting 3 stars. Otherwise, this was a nice enjoyable aromatic. I mixed it with some 5 brothers to give it some nic.

I asked my wife to purchase some Melange for me and she brought me this instead. Before going crazy and asking for divorce, etc. I decided to give it a try and it turned out surprisingly good. It is not as sweet as the Melange,it has a bit more balance. The room note is great and it is very mild on the mouth. It is easy to pack, burns evenly and the price is great. If youy like aromatics, this is something you are not going to get tired of.

Encouraged by my first encounter with the Stanwell series - "Green & Indigo", which I actually found quite agreeable, even to my own surprise - I decided to give Classic a chance. After all, plum would be one of my favourite flavours in tobacco, if done tastefully.
Unfortunately, here it isn't. The pouch note already is way too artificially sugary and fruity, and the smoking experience is once again that of cheap aromatics; mediocre quality tobacco literally doused with added flavours, giving a mild but, at the end of the day, mostly uninteresting smoke.
Bit of a disappointment really and whereas G&I was a solid 2 approaching 3, Classic only just makes the 2-star mark. Not something I'm dying to buy again and recommended for fans of light aromatics only, everyone else should stay well away as this surely is not the blend to transform you into a friend of aromatics.

As someone who doesn't eat enough fruit, I can't tell ya' what I am smelling... apricot, grapey melon, plum perhaps, who knows... it is something fruity though. The flavor doesn't overpower your nose (like some cherry aromatics might), and does melt into the smoke once lit.
The depth of tobacco taste is a bit shallow, and may come across a bit cheap. A sentiment reinforced by the quick burn time, from a mix that wasn't too dry to cause this issue. The fruitiness was lost within a few puffs, leaving an unassuming smoke I didn't love nor hate. The strength was mild enough, but at times seemed to creep up a tad, possibly due to drawing on it like a cigarette, since it acted like one.
I've enjoyed trying many of the Stanwell blends so far, but the Classic here was nothing I would revisit.

I really wanted to like this tobacco. Maybe because the description on this site says it's plum, coffee and brandy flavored. In any case, I never succeeded in liking it. I only tasted the plum and it turns out I don't like plum flavored tobacco.
If plum is your thing, then I would somewhat recommend it. It never tasted chemical, which is a plus in aromatics. On the other hand it also didn't really taste like tobacco, or inasmuch as it did, the tobacco taste was too heavy and sweet. That's the reason I give it 1 star, although I guess it deserves 1,5.
It's a tobacco that combines surprisingly well with pure latakia. It's almost half worth the effort.

My only Stanwell tobacco to date.
This is an all around mild tobacco, more of a Danish aromatic as opposed to a heavy American. Not bad at all, but I probably won't buy again. To my taste there are plenty of better aromatics out there. (2.5 stars)

Maybe my pouch was production mistake in factory, but I've got a strong smell and taste of vanilla. Tobacco burning hot, but without tongue bite, leaving some moisture at the end. Regular drug store mixture, nothing special.
