Samuel Gawith Full Virginia Flake Burnt Ends
(3.00)
Samuel Gawith's Full Virginia Flake Burnt Ends are literally the burnt ends of the brand's famed Full Virginia Flake: a blend that marries together a variety of Virginia tobaccos via heat compression. What results is a dense and thoroughly caramelized flake that captures the deeper, richer notes of an aged Full Virginia mixture without needing to be aged, and it offers tasting notes of tangy caramelized citrus, earthy, hay, and a touch of spice.

Slabs tougher than shoe leather. I have taken two approaches to trying to smoke it. First is a string shredder I use for whole leaf. This is pressed whole leaf that has to be torn apart to even try to get it through the shredder. Much thinner than I really want but got to start somewhere. Hence the very small bowl dunhill. Very nice smoke. Great taste, on the mild side and nice room note.
My second method was to tear it apart again and what a job. This time I cut it like I would an onion on a chopping board. Sort of becomes what is referred to as torn leaf. So bigger pieces instead of string cut. I haven’t tried this approach yet. Stay tuned.
