Emerson Southern Forged Gemini
(3.00)
Many of the blends created at ESF were originally custom orders. Gemini (‘the twins’) has two sides: The first side is two red Virginias, Bright Virginia and Perique, pressed together. The second side is Latakia and unsweetened Black Cavendish pressed together. These two sides are then rubbed out and pressed together! The result is amazing!
Notes: ESF never includes sweetening agents unless they are specifically mentioned as an integral part of the blend or as an option; propylene glycol is not used as a carrier for flavoring agents. The goal at ESF is to provide a custom alternative with consistent, repeatable performance, to the discerning pipe enthusiast. Pressed if requested. We try to create blends that captivate your attention, take time to unravel, and take you on a journey. Custom blend requests are welcome!

Gemini from Emerson Southern Forged
One of the side movements in tobacco blending has been whether to press or not. The press argument is that the pressure marries the blend elements which creates a flavor profile greeter than the rum of the parts.
Gemini was a blend Jim Steffey created on request — and the idea was to ‘double’ press. Gemini (astronomy or astrology) represents ‘the twins’ — here we have two sides.

What we get is a mild English. Virginias forward, Perique and Latakia as almost condiments. Smoke and spice addd to grassy, citrus. No sense of fermentation.
I’ve only tried a dozen of the 60 or so ESF blends. The other mild English I’ve sampled is Thomas’ Blend which I like more than Gemini. But this is good too.
A solid 3 out of 4 stars.
