Scandinavian Tobacco Group (STG) John Bull Fragrant English
(2.50)
Some people enjoy Latakia blends with a little something extra. That's the concept behind John Bull Fragrant English. This remarkable blend of silky black cavendish, hearty burley, and rich, smoky Cyprian Latakia is completed with a top note that works beautifully with the robust taste of the Latakia. The resulting blend has some sweetness behind the smoky profile while adding an aromatic note that makes the room note more pleasant. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but if the combination sounds intriguing to you, John Bull Fragrant English is a must try.

Upon opening the pouch, I was a bit underwhelmed as i was expecting more of an english "punch in the face" of Latakia and oriental. Once I put my nose to the bag I found them both hiding in there with notes of chocolate and raisins. It was mild, but very pleasant. The tobacco was perfect at the moisture to pack right away. It took a light very well, and had zero relights. The smokey chocolate note came through very delicately. A very mild but sweet I guess you'd say "American English." Only reason I didn't give a 4 star, is I would like it to have more of a latakia presence.

Smoking now:
The bag note is a sweet OTC burley smell with some alcohol topping. The note of plastic Halloween pumpkin bucket full of candy smell is also there. No Latakia smell that I can detect. Rather large and wet pieces of tobacco. A typical American aromatic.
The flavor is very much a burley cavendish aromatic. English? The only thing English about this is the aesthetic of the pouch. I did detect a hint of smokey, herbaceous, Latakia but only a few times out of the whole pouch. Maybe it’s there in the back ground adding something but it’s not the flavor I would expect in an “English” tobacco. Smoked like a wet aromatic. A sweet alcohol flavor with some chocolate vanilla. Left plenty of wet dottel in the bowl. Hardly any nicotine. Room note I’m told was good. Did bite me on occasion and left a sore spot in my mouth typical of an OTC aromatic. As an aromatic it’s not bad but it’s not good. 2 stars.
