John Cotton John Cotton's Double Pressed Glasgow

I purchased a new tin of John Cotton's Double Pressed Glasgow from pipesandcigars.com. The tin note evokes honey, sourdough, peppercorn, vinegar, and is mildly floral. The lightly fermented Virginias and burleys are pressed into a crumble cake, which has slightly less than optimal moisture content, but is easy to pack. The initial light brings a surprising amount of citrus and black pepper from the Virginias, followed by notes of sweet grass, cedar, and honey. The burley and cavendish support with a vegetal, earthy, sweet, toasted nuts quality. The double-pressing offers a mildly fermented sour note, while simultaneously rounding out the blend with a robust licorice-sweetness that adds character and depth to the tobacco. The topping is extremely subtle; it could be fruit or citrus or floral, but is ultimately difficult to identify, as it doesn't unnecessarily subdue the tobaccos. The nicotine strength falls between medium and medium-strong, but could be a repeatable smoke. A mellow blend that has personality, sports a few rough edges, and a delicately pleasing flavor and room note — highly recommended.

Slightly dry from the tin but burns evenly to the bottom of the bowl without condensation or bite; not much of a nicotine hit and prefer the flavors of my favorite VA/PERS.
