Pipe Republic Manston

(4.00)
Manston, in the far southeast of Kent, is home to Manston International Airport. This airfield was the first landing option British aircraft had in World War II after crossing the Channel. Aircraft very badly damaged by shelling often arrived there with their last ounce of strength. The airmen were relieved to have ground under their feet again and very often reached for the whistle. It is not impossible that there was tobacco like this in it. A hot-pressed, spicy Burley flake, loosely rubbed on and left to mature for a few more weeks. The result is a gently spicy, slightly dark chocolate scented "tobacco cake" that will delight friends of dark aromatics. Clean burn, no artificial flavoring. Rather light to medium-bodied. No frills, down to earth tobacco. A wonderfully honest Broken Flake in the English style.

Dark chocolate, freshly ground Arabica and woody spice characterize the Manston. The dark, very roughly plucked flake slices may become milder in the course of smoking and show slight notes of forest honey, the nuttiness increases. The acidity is unusually restrained for chocolaty Burleys. Definitely a tobacco for Burley lovers, whereby the Manston is not a diva, but rather a down-to-earth, proper tobacco.

The BEST burley I ever had. Tine note of chocolate, light sweetness and nuttiness.
The broken flakes need a little rubbing, but fill great. Moisture a bit high, but nothing you could not handle. It still lights easily and burns dry and cool.
The smoke is like the tin note. Lots of chocolate, earth, nuts, mild spices, some floral notes and what surprised me was the occasional notes of dried fruits.
I can totally agree with Beck_to_business, it’s a down to earth, mildly complex blend. Superb for all day smoking. A burly lovers paradise.
