Cornell & Diehl Warped: Scarecrow 2022
(4.00)
Warped's limited-edition, Halloween-themed release, Scarecrow combines proprietary Red Virginia Cavendish — a rich, naturally sweet variety crafted from deep 2017 Reds and 2019 Orange-Red flue-cured leaf — with 2014 White Burley and vintage Dark air-cured leaf, yielding notes of malty chocolate and warming spices. Subtle top notes of chocolate, vanilla, and caramel enhance and complement the natural tobacco character of these select components, and the entire mixture is pressed for days before being sliced into old-fashioned crumble cakes, further marrying the flavors and enhancing its aging potential. Only 4,000 units were made for this seasonal, limited-edition run.

Warped: Scarecrow 2022.
Just like the last batch, the tin-note is gorgeous. Sweet, fruity, sharp. The kake isn't too damp, I easily crumble, load, light, smoke.
Of the added flavours it's the caramel apple which I find leads. The chocolate and vanilla smooth any apple-sharpness nicely. As well as these there's a kind of ''spicy'' note, maybe cinnamon, which really excites the smoke. The tobaccos are more Cavendish, without being too heavy or sticky. The Burley dries out the wetness from the casings, somewhat, and although not as formidable a flavour as the Cav' it gives the smoke a semblance of ''traditionality''! After smoking this all afternoon, I can say it hasn't bit me.
Nicotine: below medium. Room-note: nice.
2022 Scarecrow? A great aromatic; the same as the last. Four stars
Highly recommended.

The only difference I notice in this version as opposed to the 2021 release is that the matured white burley seems to be a notch more potent. As I note in the next paragraph, It is slightly more of a competitor for the lead rather than just being a supporting player as it previously was. This very lightly reduces the sweet fruit and sugar content of the red Virginia cavendish. Otherwise, this review is close what I wrote last year with the noted differences.
The 2017 and 2019 red and red/orange Virginia cavendish mix provides a lot of tart and tangy citrus, grass, bread, sugar, some tangy dark fruit, earth, wood, floralness, vegetation, light sour vinegar, and a pinch or two of spice. They are the lead components. The strong year 2014 matured white burley offers a lot of earth, wood, some nuts, sour sharp roughness, cocoa, and a small spice note. It almost competes for the lead. The aspects of the air cured 2014 dark burley are earth, wood, nuts, sugar and light molasses. It’s close behind the white burley in the proceedings. The sugary black cavendish isn’t very noticeable. The port wine, mild vanilla, caramel and light chocolate toppings slightly more than moderately tone down the tobaccos. The strength is a slot short of the center of medium to strong. The nic-hit is medium. The taste level is in that center. There’s no chance of bite or harshness. though it does sport a few small rough edges. This mildly moist crumble kake easily breaks apart to suit your preference, and as per my custom, I did not dry it. Well balanced, complex and deeply rich, it burns cool, clean, and slow with a very consistent sweet and sour, nutty, wine, fruity, rather punchy flavors. Leaves little moisture in the bowl. Requires some relights. Has a pleasantly long lingering after taste. The tolerable room note is a little stronger than last year’s version. Not an all day smoke. Four stars.

Once cut into slices and dried out overnight this a sublime and full-bodied aromatic that satisfies and enriched the senses. Seriously - it’s very good and fits the season like a glove.
It’s smells like candy but the taste is full like a good aged Virginia.Your company will approve of the smell. A really brilliant tobacco that although it’s very good isn’t something I want to repeat more than once a day. This is a dessert tobacco best enjoyed at dusk watching the setting Sun or in the evening telling spooky stories.

Pretty darn good. Tin note is caramel, vanilla cream and boozy fruit cake. Smells very much like Carolan's Irish Cream liqueur... if you have never tried Carolan's, I highly recommend, 4 stars... back to tobacco. A quintessential aromatic in the sense it smells good, inoffensive to the non-smoker, whilst yielding strong tobacco flavours, enjoyable for the smoker. Basically, I smell the caramel and vanilla more than I taste them. I taste the burley, it's nutty, creamy, with a bit of wood and slightly bitter. The red virginia cavendish has depth, it's fruity and earthy with some straw. Really, what I taste most is cinnamon. I'm no expert, so I have no clue where that flavour comes from. Is it the tobacco? Topping? Caseing? Platypus placenta? Not sure, but I definitely taste cinnamon. The flavour, as a whole, is a nutty cinnamon with strong tobacco taste. Room note is as stated: caramel, vanilla, booze/liqueur, chocolate. It doesn't bite. It burns well, a little fast. Best to sip slow to coax more flavour out. Pretty decent nicotine level. One issue to mention, it gets bitter by the bottom. One positive to mention, for an aromatic cake, the moisture and cut are perfect. No drying, easy handling, very impressed. I ain't the biggest C&D fan, but this is a good one. All said and done, a great fall/winter blend that smells and tastes great, well worth trying. 3.5. I will be back next October with my fingers crossed that there will be another tin to greet me.

Smells very sickly sweet in the tin, but smokes sweet and smooth. No bite and a satisfying amount of smoke. Good tin note and a good nic hit.

Tin description: smells like what candied corn The flavors pop in the beginning, with a sweet, brown sugar butteriness, assisted by the cavendish I’m sure and a slightly sour-sweet note that does remind you of candy apples. Later on chocolate notes, pop up more but not so much in the beginning. 5 minutes in or so, those flavors wane and you do settle into the notes of the leaf components. Dark fruitiness of the red virginas are balanced with hay notes of the orange leaf. The burley offers some molasses notes but also some spice, like a light Kentucky component. This is a stout aromatic blend. The nicotine is manageable but it’s not low like most aromatics. The original candy appleish flavor diminishes a bit into the bowl but it lingers in the background. If you like simply aromatic blends with low nicotine content, you wont like this. For the burley, nicotine lover wanting something different, I can’t imagine you not liking this.
Personally, I’d give this a 8/10 but I can see why this blend was controversial.

2022 version: Tin note of candy corn or sharp caramel liquor, chocolate and vanilla. Tobacco is a Krumble Kake of light brown, brown and black. Moisture content is ok, most people will need to dry it a bit. Burns slow with a few relights. The strength is medium and nic is medium. Flavoring is medium, with notes of Liquor, Caramel, Chocolate and Vanilla. Flavoring wains within the first 1/3 and gradually becomes sporadic wisps. Taste is medium to full and mostly consistent, with notes of chocolate, caramel, spiced rum, fermented vegetation, bread, grassy, very woody, rich earth, brown sugar, mild vanilla, nuts, molasses, orange zest, a tart and tangy fruit background note, and a mildly peppery almost smooth retro. Red Virginia Cavendish is leading with Burleys and Flavoring supporting. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is good.
