The latest update to Vauen’s Auenland series is another high aromatic blend that claims to be a mild an fruity accomplice for an evening at the campfire. At least, this is what Vauen of Nuremberg says about the product.
The 50g tin for around 15€ isn’t the cheapest around but equal to the rest of their product range. It comes with lots of moisture and a pleasant warm smell of honey coated tangerine with hints of almond. The Mixture contains Virginia of different aging grades Burley and double fermented Black Cavendish cut into a nice homogeneous mixture which also has some nice little cube-cut pieces in it.
I have smoked it in various sized bowls and always left it outside to dry for at least half an hour before. It packs well into any size and takes the flames good but might need some more time to get it burning evenly. Smoked cool and slow it will burn down nicely leaving only middle grey ashes in the pipe. Smaller sized bowls work great with this tobacco and it’s always very mild even when pushed a bit.
First third of the bowl is dominated by the flavoring for sure. There’s orange and honey as main players and some spicy woody notes as a backup which are more noticeable when puffed retro nasal. (The producers say it’s pine resin flavor)
In the further process of the bowl the natural tobacco flavors are coming to light more and more. There’s definitely some chocolate like burley flavors and also sweet grassy bits combined in a solid way it has some ups and downs as the different blending parts show up underneath that flavoring that does not get unpleasant at any time.
All in all Vauen Sunset Mixture is a good option for those who like a mild tobacco mix with a non Artificial tasting sauce. Lovers of orange tastes will be left with a smile on their face when having a smoke session with this mixture. Also very good for beginners!
