I love it. Burns amazingly and coolly. I imagine cracked pepper in winter. Crisp, but a very light sweetness does develop and come through a bit after lighting. Quality.
Pipe Used: Cobs, clays, cheap briars
PurchasedFrom: a pretty shop with ugly tins
Age When Smoked: 0-2 years

Whilst being on a winter vacation I simply had to visit P.G.C. Hajenius pipe and cigar shop in the City of Amsterdam. They have several large blending rooms and walk-in humidors there as well as show rooms which alone is enough stuff for a whole shop review. Ended up with a housebrand corona and their „759“ blend which is a long existing clone of the legendary Balkan Sobranie and was by smell the best for me.

By opening the tin there’s a sweet and beautiful smell of spicy tobacco with slight notes of leather and warm hey. As I tend to dry my tobacco out a bit I left it open for an hour in front of the chimney. Had a nice moisture level then so I packed it right into a medium sized bowl a bit loose like I think it is necessary for mixtures like these.

Takes flames easily and has excellent burning characteristics. No relighting needed as this blend burns slow and even just as you would expect from a good quality English.

The Hajenius 759 doesn’t offer too much ups and downs in taste but reveals a nice sweet and spicy at once, undertone that stays along until the last puffs. Very solidly blended. I can taste a hardly noticeable sweet liquorish flavor at some times but very very subtle and often ousted by those Balkan spices which can give an amazing perception of tastes together with the smoky Latakia.

All in all the 759 is a medium to full English mixture with a high share of spicy ground tobaccos that can easily grow an all day for lovers of natural, characterful blends. For a house blend pricing is a bit high but that’s also due to EU tobacco taxes. Nevertheless you get what you pay for and that’s superior quality tobaccos affectionately blended into a nice memorable house tobacco.
