Notes: A very special blend, using predominantly flue cured Virginia (55%), but with the addition of black cavendish, some burley and a pinch of Latakia. Premium quality leaf with an aging of at least 3 years for all selected tobaccos (from 3 to 8 years). Very limited production for the Italian market: only 500 kilos for 12.500 tins (40 grams per tin). Only available in Italy while stocks last.

This mixture is one of a kind: it is not a Latakia mixture and it is not a classic aromatic. We could say that it is rather a successful attempt to combine a flavored blend with the smoky and exotic taste of Latakia. In fact there is only a pinch of Latakia but it is evident on the palate. And being able to combine Latakia with flavored mixtures is not very simple. In this case the attempt was successful (one in a million) and therefore congratulations to the STG blenders. Great job guys!
It has been said that this blend is very similar to Clan Original, an elegant and refined copy of the older brother. Nothing could be more wrong. Clan limited 3 years is completely different. Now I want to speak about the differences between these two blends, from the point of view of Clan limited 3 years (CL3Y) compared to Clan Original (CO). Similarities: first the name and the image; second the cut (ribbon); third they are both aromatic blends. Now the differences: first of all the quality. CL3Y is a mixture of great quality while CO is rather a commercial blend, a sort of OTC blend. CL3Y has a more complex and round taste, it is more balanced and harmonious and less banal. Secondly the presence of Latakia. CL3Y has a smoky taste that CO doesn’t have. Latakia is mild but evident. And that’s okay. More Latakia would ruin the mixture by covering the other flavors. Thirdly CL3Y is an aromatic “sui generis” while CO is a classic flavored mixture. Last but not least the perfect combination of flavors. CL3Y is sweet, but not too sweet, it is smoky, but just a little; CO is simply sweet, neither more nor less. Pay attention: CL3Y is not suitable for Latakia lovers but rather for all those who are looking for a different solution, a middle way (middle ground) or a compromise between aromatic and smoky taste. In my opinion, while not the top of the top, this is a good mixture very well balanced: opening the tin the scent is wonderful, the taste is enjoyable and the room note excellent. Unfortunately it is expensive. For all these reasons in my personal rating system (from 1 to 10) my score is 8 and three complete stars.
