Just as I was fixing to tear down my tables at our recent 2019 NASPC show, I was approached by a gentleman asking if I would buy thirteen tins of pipe tobacco that he didn't want to take back to Kentucky with him. I did, subsequently, buy the tins and received a surprise in the process. When I went to get a box to put them in, he placed them in a box on his table that contained six quart mason jars filled wih various levels of tobacco saying he was giving them to me. I said, uhh, okay. Not looking a gift horse in the mouth, they turned out to be somewhat dissappointing as they were in various states of dessication and had lost a lot of their essences. One of the jars appeared newer and more well preserved than the others and bore handwritten labels saying "Old Virginia" and "London Night". When opened it emitted a wonderful English blend aroma and was, in fact, in a good state of preservation. When I lit my first bowl of this, I knew I was into something special. Even in the beginning of the top third of the smoke, it went from good to better to best rapidly. I was so intrigued with this that I set the pipe down and researched Old Virginia Tobacco Company and the name London Night. I found their site and discovered this blend in current availability. Now, I don't know the age of my full ten ounce jar, but it's condition said it wasn't that old. Hopefully, OVTC is still at that quality level with this blend. I found London Night to be an almost perfect upper medium strength English blend in every aspect you can name. Rather than wade through all of them, I'll just say this: London Night is one of the best English blends I have ever smoked and give it it's deserved four big stars.
