Garfinkel's Atlas
(2.00)
Rich black cavendish. Matured in bond.
Notes: Blended by Robert McConnell for A. Garfinkel, Inc of Washington D.C, a tobacco shop that went out of business sometime around 1990. Atlas was unique in that the famous McConnell’s Virginia leaf was cavendish processed for a softer presentation.

The tin looked perfect and opened with a little effort, but the inside was rusty and the tobacco bone dry. The tobacco has a slight fragrance -- very mild and pleasant -- honeydew, perhaps. But it burned hot, and there was something just wrong about -- tobacco from the tomb. I am not a natural candidate for this blend (I like Balkans and avoid "cavendish" and aromatics, usually) but for me the moral is: stop grave robbing ancient tobacco, unless it's so old it's in a cutter tin likely to be still sealed. RECOMMENDATION: buy it 40 years ago. You're not likely to find it now, and if you do find it, hang the tin on the wall -- a momento to the past.
