Stanwell Housemark Sungold
(3.00)
A Danish mixture of the best quality. Double fermented black cavendish, mixed with portions of golden Virginia tobacco lends it a special sweetness, which is refined by gentle vanilla flavor and provides the smoker with complete pleasure.

Delicious.... one of the best drug store blend available today. Beautiful smell of cream vanilla during all smoke. No tongue bite, only cool dry smoke. I'm not big fan of aromatic, but this blend deserves 4 big stars. Highly recommended.

DTM's mouth-watering selection of blends puts poor old British Tobacconists in the shade. And their prices - even with postage, or shipping as the Americans call it - are way lower.
This gave me a chance to choose a few blends you wouldn't even get a sniff of in Britain. At 5.70euros for a 50 gram pouch is amazing value. At half the price of a similar blend here, it's almost suspiciously cheap.
So, you think, is it cheap n'nasty ?
Well.....no, it's not. It isn't the finest or the most sophisticated blend I've ever tried, nor is it a tobacco I'd want to smoke all day, every day. But it's ....interesting.
It's a cross between MacBaren's 7 Seas and Rafords's Sunday Fantasy. Sweet, rather dry, with a marzipan type fragrance. The tobacco is very dark in colour and must have a high percentage of cavendish.
It behaves itself in the bowl, with few relights and taps out to a cigarette-like dottle. The aroma is quite strong and, unlike so many aromatics, this comes through in the smoke. Suprisingly the room note was unremarked by Mrs RH.
I'd buy this again, but as I said, I'd cellar most of it and certainly drag it out from time to time when I tire of plain virginnias. The only thing is that it might - and I say might - ghost your briars. My son who is no aromatics fan wouldn't give it bowl-room in his pipes, but if you want a cheap aromatic smoke at a very reasonable price then this is the blend for you.
Good ol' Dan Tobacco, they deserve an accolade.

I'm quite a fan of Stanwell's blends, but while many would feel simply too much, this I find a perfect balance. Burns surprisingly nice, no need for relights even with minute-long breaks, nor does it bite at all. A great companion at all times and weather, but I find it most pleasant to smoke from mid-afternoon to the night. Not a blend for deep thinking, it's sweet, fruity taste just doesn't let you focus on any heavy thoughts. Perfect however for smoking with others, makes a rather loose, free atmosphere. Despite it's intensive taste do not pair with strong drinks, depending on occassion a nice cold tea, light beer, latte or blended whiskey at most will do just fine. Be aware, that hint of orientals is actually present in the taste, providing a combination of taste that could not ever get boring.

Unfiltered this blend is un-smokeable to me! A very heavy sauced, perfumed aromatic. I dared to buy a 50g pouch a while ago, as it's dirt cheap (under 4€). Taking into consideration I'm not a Aromatic guy anymore, but was back then, this stuff was even then too heavy aromatized for me.
The scent from the bag was promising. Sweet Vanilla, yet a bit artificial. In the pipe it "gains" a perfumy aroma to the Vanilla aroma, which I diddn't liked at all. No tobacco to be found in the taste, as this is a full-grown aromatic blend. Even though I liked aromatics back then I don't find/found this very pleasing. My first pipe blend ever was a Vanilla-Aromatic by Peter Heinrichs (No. 14) which is A LOT(!!!) better than this one. Whilst PH No.14 has some nice tobacco aroma with a decent, natural Vanilla flavoring, Sungold is the complete opposite. Chemical flavor, with no tobacco aroma at all to me.
I can see that fans of full-grown, sauced aromatics might like this, but even then - there are far better Vanilla aromatics out there. Can't recommend it for the fact, that other cheap Vanilla-aros are a lot better (No. 14 by PH is only 14€ per 100g f.e.)
Has a very pleasant room-note though and is mild and smooth in smoke. But the flavor is just too artificial imho. Also this will ghost your pipe in no time..take that into consideration when smoking this, you better dedicate a pipe for it, or use clay/cobs.
