Notes: Epirus Greek Tobacco by Wolfway Tobacco. It comes from handmade processing and is exclusively made with Greek made tobacco without the use of enhancers. It is aromatic and can also be used to make a blend with the other Epirus pipelines. It is recommended for mixing with lighter Izmir Tutun.
As a Greek i couldn't ignore the fact that a greek company produces pipe tobacco. For my first and safest choise i purchased this blend.when the seal breaks a very natural aroma from tea and grasses comes out.the virginias are bright very well handled in wide ribbon cut with some chunks included.the moisture is a bit more than should so a little drying time is needed.packs and lights ok with some relights needed afterwards.whike smoking the flavours are clear, natural and pleasant.the virginias offer mostly tea notes, grasses, citruces and lemons.some bread notes also appear rarelly.nice combination of flavours very rich and smooth.burns quick and medium hot to perfect ash with some moisture being created at the end of the bowl αnd the filter.the aftertaste is nice.the room note is typical virginias aromas.generally this is a great bright virginia blend, very pleasing, perfect for an all day smoke,a great one to burn a new pipe and a nice base for blending.totally recommended
Wide ribbon cut sun cured bright Virginia tobacco without any topping whatsoever – it looks like it – grown in Greece as the pouch states. These tobacco look like the most natural and unprocessed tobaccos I’ ve ever seen…
Springy and at perfect moisture for packing and lighting, pouch aroma is grassy, reminds of green cut flower stem and slightly fruity like a tart prune. It is an uncomplicated straight Virginia ribbon which burns well, never hot, does not bite and is quite flavorful, cigarette-like with a faint hay-like quality and even some notes of burnt caramel sweetness. Can be smoked straight if you’re in the mood for something simple straightforward but satisfying or it can be used for blending.
It is not as indispensable for me as the Izmir and Basma offerings from the Epos series, but I will always keep some in my cellar for when needed.
As someone who smokes 1 to 2 bowls a week my review will be useful for someone who doesn't smoke regularly and wants an amazing experience every time he/she lights a bowl. This tobacco is 100% pure virginia. Upon first light, the hay and sweetness become prominent and as you get down the bowl you taste almost bready and earthy notes. But this tobacco, as every wolfway blend, is very one dimensional. Cellaring for at least 6 months is mandatory because if you taste it fresh, well, it tastes almost nothing. It's a good, every day virginia but nothing special. It reminds me of George Karellias cigarettes for those who live in Greece, or for our international friends, it is somewhat close to a very nice cigarette. I will mix it with izmir and leave it for a year or two to see the results.
Three stars for the pure Virginia from Wolfway. I'd rate it as somewhat recommended for my personal tastes, but that'd be not doing justice to the producers, as this is a quality product as all other Wolfway products I've tried.
My issue is I am not refined enough to appreciate a straight Virginia unless the leaf has been tortured a bit with steam, pressure, and cutting into flakes.
The smell of the pouch is that of hay, and it looks like hay too: golden and bright yellow ribbons.
I had a couple of bowls of this as it came, which were too light for my taste, the predominant flavour was hay and some citrus. I didn't get any spice or much sweetness from it, and no nicotine hit either.
When however I mixed it with Wolfway's Burley, the result far surpassed the sum of its parts, it gained the strength and depth of flavour I was looking for, and also allowed the Virginia sweetness to come through (look at my review of the Wolfway Burley for the other side of the story).
2 stars for my personal tastes as I wouldn't really smoke it on its own, but 3 as a product in its merits. Edit: to 2 stars
Natural straight virginia tobacco. Pure taste, but needs relighting and bites a little bit if you are not careful. Room note is nice and light. I prefer basma and ismir to this one, but still good enough to give it a try.
This smoke was the first of Epos and when I smoke it I felt flowers in my stomach . I am in love ,the cold leaf color and the aroma of Virginia tobacco bring me memories when i was kid in my Grandparent Village .The taste is smooth and bring me something like honey but is not so strong. I smoke it unstopped all day the ppl near of me accept it.It is not annoying and almost no aroma at all in the room.
It is truly refreshing to find some old school cigar like pipe tobaccos. This Virginia non aromatic seems to be the case, and what's more over the time it matures mellower. A pleasant sweet taste on the palate, and a hint of hay aroma is what you get from this nice quality tobacco.
