Hearth & Home Mean Bean
(3.00)
In an attempt to round out the Signature Series, Russ has put together some subtle aromatics that can be enjoyed all day. One that we feel is destined to be a popular blend is Mean Bean, a Cavendish-cut mixture of Virginia and black Cavendish treated with a smooth vanilla note that's in the background, rather than being the primary flavor.

Hearth & Home - Mean Bean.
I'll be honest, I bought this solely because I found the name brilliant: MEAN BEAN!!
So, I opened this as my evening smoke last night, after having a cigar, and rather pleasant it is!
It doesn't have the appearance I'd expect when the blend lists it contains black Cavendish and Virginia. Instead of brown/yellow tobaccos intertwined with black, the blend's mainly dark brown with a few fluctuations in the shade. The mixture resembles a well broken flake, a few coarse pieces are included. I note a mild, vanilla, essence from the tin, but nothing heavy or sticky. The moisture's good.
The smoke has a light, vanilla, quality. It isn't a flavour which is consumed by a false, weighty, tacky, characteristic. The tobaccos act in a similar fashion. Rather than being a corpulent mess mainly occupied by sticky black Cavendish, it's more of a buoyant, brown Cavendish, type smoke. It burns quite slowly, the coarse cut helps the speed, and the cool smoke remains bereft of bite for the entire duration of a bowl.
Nicotine: not much. Room-note: nice.
Mean Bean? Just enough vanilla to establish it as a steadfast aromatic, but not a blend that imbues a 'sickly' feeling! Recommended:
Three stars.
