Gauntleys Of Nottingham Private Blend No.47
(3.00)
A secret blend!
For spring 2016 we have gone for an aromatic that offers a soft, almost fruity character with a lovely leafy freshness. This gives a fresh room note, and is medium on the palate. Although it's listed as No. 47, it took us about 70 attempts to get it right!
Only available until 31st May 2016.

Gauntleys - Private Blend No.47.
Secret recipe; how intriguing!
To me, the blend looks to be a course cut/mixture that's made up of quite an equal amount of Black Cavendish to Virginia and Burley (black to brown). It has a slight aromatic smell but not one to say "I'm heavily cased". It's of a smokeable moisture, a short air would be beneficial but it's not absolutely necessary. It fills easily; I use a gravity method and it's easily lit.
It's a very thick, cool, smoke, with a velvety quality to it. There's a subtle aromatic note to the smoke but it's not too heavy; it seems to me as though it's had a sort of citrus/lemon addition and it's a bit stronger at the beginning. Other than that I don't really notice much extra flavour; that just leaves room for a Cavendish/Virginia sweetness, with maybe a touch of Burley nuttiness.
I enjoy this but after about five minutes my only issue with it arises; tongue bite. It doesn't give me a massive kick but if it's puffed over zealously it can give me a slight one; tiny!
This is a nice blend; not the best I've had from these guys, they make some brilliant smokes but this is easily worth three stars.
