Rattray Summer Edition 2015

Rattray's Summer Edition 2015 is a blend of Virginias and black cavendish with a warm breeze of fresh raspberries and peach cream flavour. A perfect accompaniment to any summer's day! The mix of light to medium brown Virginias against a background of dark cavendish gives the impression of a beautiful sunset abreast a backdrop of wispy clouds and a horizon of sky and sea, full of colour and invokes a sense of tranquillity. The aroma coming from the tin is sweet, like a conserve. A picnic blanket laid with cake, jam, buns and fruits upon a grassy hillock scattered with loose hay, overlooking the coast. This is summer at its best! The ribbon cut is a pleasure to pack into a pipe and being of optimum humidity, lights with ease. The flavours are immediately released; raspberry, peach and the base tobaccos work fantastically well together. It burns evenly and thoroughly, leaving a fine ash. If the weather turns or winter is setting in, take a pinch of this Summer Edition in your pipe to revive those memories of better conditions.

This is by far the best aromatic blend i smoked so far! Easy to fill, light and smoke with no tongue bite at all. Burns smooth right to the end. The taste? Just delicious! In the beginning there´s lots of peach, midbowl it turns to a nice creamy sweetness and in the end it turns to a nutty flavour. This blend has everything i expect for a truly interesting mixture! Unfortunately it isn´t available anymore so i am looking forward to next summer and what rattray has to offer then!!!

Rattray-Summer Edition 2015.

This really is a potently flavoured blend! The first sign of this is the aroma from the mix, there isn't any mistaking the fact that this is a fairly heavily flavoured tobacco.

There looks to be a slightly higher amount of Virginia compared to Black Cavendish. There is a good selection of sizes, some pretty small/delicate ones and a few larger/longer ones.

The moisture is good but as mine was from a 5 gram sample bag I can't comment on the amount from a sealed tin, sorry!

On to the smoke now. Because the aroma was so strong of aromatics it comes as no surprise to me that the smoke is the same. I find the addition of cream, peach and raspberry seems a bit confused. I can identify the peach but the others seem messy. The extra flavours are far too busy. Sadly the aromatic side is far to strong to allow any tobacco nuances to come through, all the tobaccos seem to do is give body to the smoke. This is a die hard aromatic!

I find the nicotine mild in this, that's all there is to say on that!

This really doesn't suit me. Granted, I'm not an aromatic smoker, I prefer pure tobacco blends so a true aro' smoker would probably have a diametrically opposed opinion to mine.

Sadly, for me, it's not at all recommended. One star.

I guess I am just not an aromatic smoker. I never seem to get all these wonderful flavors and taste that are touted by the blenders. All I got from this blend as I opened it was a bit of cherry or perhaps peach aroma. Tobacco was extremely dry which is unusual for most aromatics. Light up was difficult as it required multiple light ups. First couple of puffs were just a hint of cherry maybe peach, it was hard to tell and faded off to nothing really. Was a bitch to keep lit. Burned fairly hot when it would stay lit. Flavor was very very weak. Just not an enjoyable smoke at all. Perhaps I got a bad tin but this was one of the worst aromatic blends so have ever smoked. Room note was not detected at all. This is not for me at all.
