I've been avidly reading the reviews on this great site since 2008, when I took up the pipe again after a break of over ten years. From the early '70s I smoked Escudo almost exclusively, with the odd tin of Balkan Sobranie for a change, and gave up when I couldn't find a satisfactory replacement for Escudo, which stopped being available in the UK. Although I read reviews with great pleasure, I wasn't moved to add my opinions to the site until the tragic recent change in the tobaccos I had finally latched on to as an adequate replacement for the Escudo of old: Samuel Gawith's St James Flake and Full Virginia Flake.
Astley's pipes bought from the wonderful shop in Jermyn Street in the '70s, G.W. Sims from Tuffnel Park, also from the '70s, and more recently Dunhill, Ashton, Castello, Ser Jacopo, Il Ceppo, and Eckhard Stohr.
