About Me

I have been a pipesmoker a bit on and off since around 2010. I have since gone through different phases with the type of pipe tobacco that I enjoy, but never really been a fan of aromatics. By now I tend to prefer virginia flakes, or natural virginia blends, as my favorite choice of tobacco. My absolute favorite is Peterson Flake (reflected in my rather long review). What I like in a virginia is the natural sweetness from the tobacco but with enought body not to get bland and boring. Bready notes together with natural sweet taste that caramelizes as you smoke it, that is what I like in a good virginia. I don’t like tobaccos that are too tart, or very stout. So too much kentucky or strong burley in a blend is usually not my cup of tea. But I can enjoy that too occasionally. English blends I can smoke once in a while, but I find them a bit too predictable and onedimensional for me to keep in a regular rotation. Va/pers I like when the perique is not too offensive, or more on the sweet and mellow side rather than peppary. I love St James Flake, and enjoy Marlin Flake too. I almost always have coffee with the pipe, so I tend to appreciate compatibility there. I write my reviews primarily for my own sake, as a way of keeping track of my own impressions, they can be written in a personal style, but I also try to be informative. If you have similar preferences, I hope my reviews can be of some guidance in this vast and interesting world of pipe tobaccos.
