My interest in pipes was fostered by my paternal grandfather who smoked them from my earliest memories. A friend and I purchased our first pipes just prior to departing on our Youngster Cruises from the US Naval Academy. After four weeks at sea, we were hooked. Upon returning to the Academy, we founded the Ben Franklin Club with a mutual friend. The three of us served as this gentleman's society of etiquette's Directors Royale for the remainder of our term.
My term ended one semester shy of graduation, and I finished my degree in Mechanical Engineering at Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont. Upon graduation, I migrated west to pratice Mechanical Design in Los Angeles while trying to break into the music scene.
I am currently living in Utah. My other interests include motorcycle riding during the summers, and skiing during the winters.

A large number of my pipes are Petersons. For the most part, these were some of my earliest acquisitions. I have three of the now extinct Peterson Emerald Series that I really enjoy smoking. Most recently I have acquired a few itallian pipes in more unconventional shapes. The last pipe I purchased was a beautiful L'anatra, and I can't believe that I've waited this long to get one.
In general, I prefer straight stemmed pipes with a rusticated or sand-blasted finish, although my collection includes a few marvelous examples of straight grained pipes.
Living in Utah, I have stumbled across an excellent local pipe maker by the name of Arley Curtz, and have six marvelous examples of his work.
