Very Strange. HP Himself would be proud...

This blend defies categorization. They call it a Virginia blend, but it is totally unlike any other blend of any kind that I have ever tried. This is one of my go-to, must-have, deep-cellar blends, mainly because it is so weird that it works! The tin note will literally sting your nostrils. It smells soaked in some kind of brandy or rum. Barely comes out in the bowl, though. plummy, figgy Virginias, Dark-fired Kentucky, Perique, and even some rare Katerini Turkish tobacco mashed together; sounds like too much going on, but everything just kind of fits together, even though it shouldn't! It's complex enough to challenge the advanced palate, but it's also mellow enough to just simply enjoy as a nice smoke.

    Weak but interesting.

A blend rather complex but hard to figure out. The strong alcohol dose of whiskey and Kentucky had me thinking more about HIll Billies than the DReamlands. Even so I enjoyed the smoke and really look forward to see what 10 years of ageing will put on this blend.

    good blend

I smoke daily so tobaccos with sugary toppings do not work for me as the bite can be a real issue. This blend has a strong tin note and I was worried I made a mistake but once lit the flavor was berry good (pun intended). Grape soda? Almost a Dr. Pepper type flavor. It is sweet at first. Once lit, the topping actually works well and is a nice break from the Balkan and English blends I smoke. The flavor mixes with the quality tobaccos very well and halfway into a smoke the blend becomes a rich smooth smoke that lasts to a pleasant dry ash at the end. If you are looking for a flavor profile that is different this is a great introduction for any smoker. Sweet, flavorful, ending in a rich satisfying smoke. Also, it blends well giving a wonderful hint of berry to my homebrew wintermix of Izmir, Sansepolcro, and Semois. I found this blend avoids a lot of the issues of sweet topped tobacco. No tongue bite, natural flavoring (no chemical flavors) great tobacco as the base. C&D has other topped blends I may try as this blend is great!

C&D DREAMS OF KADATH PIPE TOBACCO

Posted by paul on 15th Nov 2019

Impressive! I can't call this an aromatic because of the complexity. It's more of a bouquet of notes from the blend of tobaccos. I could not detect any casing or flavoring beyond the initial tin note of apricot, which was not present in the experience. I will probably let this tobacco dry a bit before I embark on the next Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath...

    A new aromatic favorite!

Posted by Ron on 10th Nov 2019

After sitting on a tin of this for a year, I finally popped it and was hit in the face with an offensive nail polish like smell that I was not expecting. I thought something was wrong with it at first. Then after letting it breathe I quickly realized it was topped with brandy alcohol like topping. The flavor of the topping is present but doesn't overpower the component tobaccos. The Dark Fired stands out with the other tobaccos adding to a complex and satisfying blend. Your opinion of this blend will likely depend on whether or not you like the topping flavor. I personally enjoy it a lot, find it to be well balanced, unlike those aromatics that don't have any tobacco flavor at all.

    Top shelf

I’m a big fan of Mad Fiddler Flake and Dreams of Kadath is a perfect companion. There are complexity and mystique to this tobacco. It is truly a masterpiece of blending and sourcing tobaccos that are not run-of-the-mill. The plug is easy to slice and prepare, there is no bite and I caught myself puffing like a maniac a few times, trying to puzzle out the different flavors, but it never got harsh. Like the novella by Lovecraft, this blend is an instant classic and one that I will always keep in my rotation. Heck, I have a pipe dedicated just to the Old One's series.

    Maddeningly Complex

Posted by wainair on 18th Oct 2018

I bought a tin of this back in the summer and I must be honest, I didn't like it that much. It has a strong and mysterious flavor that I found a bit overwhelming. Peppery, with prune/raisin, dried fruit. Mildly sweet and spicy. It really messed with my head. Definitely, a late evening smoke that I would say best enjoyed with a stiff drink. I found it too much in the hot humid weather. But today it is a cold fall day where I am and I thought I would give it another try. I have noticed that I like different tobaccos at different times of the year(there's nothing like a good cigar on a hot humid summer night!) and cold fall weather is Perfect to smoke this blend! In the cold October air Dreams of Kadath really makes its mark! It is still just as complex but in the cold air it is not so overwhelming and mellows into a really interesting smoke! This Maddening mix is my new Halloween bowl! When the leaves are falling from the trees and you can hear the howl of the Old Ones in the wind, reach for a plug of Dreams of Kadath!
