Next up, another sample: Cringle Flake. In a Savinelli straight billiard (2023 collection).

This one is less my cup of tea. To continue with that metaphor, it was green tea, rather than Earl Grey 😄 I risked burning a hole in my pipe I was puffing so hard to try and taste something. There’s something about cavendish that leaves me feeling underwhelmed. In my limited experience so far, it’s either soaked in flavouring, or bland. My mind will remain open, but I have yet to be convinced of its value as a main player. As a condiment, it can smooth out a blend and lend it a certain creaminess. Perhaps I’m missing something, though.

To be fair, it was probably the wrong choice of tobacco after eating a curry. I should’ve had an English blend instead. Ah well! I have enough left to give it another try, at a more suitable time.

That’s an interesting take. There’s no cavendish in it, it’s a somewhat intensely strong Virginia Perique blend.

I’ve just re-read this post and wish I could delete it! I wrote it after enjoying curry and beers with a friend. Too many beers by the looks of it! Please ignore it. I’ve just smelled the bag and I clearly didn’t know what I was talking about! 😄

I’ll try it again tomorrow.

I wish I could forget some of the things I’ve said and done after a good curry and generous quantities of beer! I figured there had to be more to the story. 🤪😃

In this fine IPSD I'm enjoying some Maltese Falcon in my Savinelli 114ks.  Drinking some black coffee.  Also admonishing the squirrels for getting into the bird feeders. Lol

My grandfather, an amazing wood worker, built some squirrel traps to relocate the rascals away from his grapes. We watched in amazement as one squirrel got stuck in the trap and another helped him to escape from the outside!😅🤣

IPSD started off with a couple of packages today.  2 new pipes some tobacco for restock and a new one for me.

Breaking in my new Rossi Piccolo 8313 with a bowl of Rattrays Dark Fragrant. Typical black stoved virginia flavor. Tangy, sweet, and caramelized but the perique adds a nice pepper and spice. I'm enjoying this quite a bit.

I've always loved the look of a dunhill prince and this is the closest that I've found. I'm in love with it.

I've moved on to one I haven't had in awhile. Cobblestone Maple Walnut. It's like smoking a pancake with maple syrup. Delicious stuff. Lol

I just got my mail and I got a package. I bought 1oz of ODF to see what I thought about this tobacco.

I don't often love or hate a blend immediately. Well ODF is one of those kind. I love this blend. Absolutely wonderful flavor. I am smoking it in a medium cob.

I will be ordering more of this one. 👍👍👍👍

It’s a true classic in my opinion, I’ve gone binges of nothing but ODF for weeks in the past.

Breaking in my other pipe I received today. 155th missouri meerschaum with some royal yacht.

My method of breaking in cobs or untreated bowls in general is the first few bowls are coated with honey first. I don't like the taste of a fresh cob pipe. It tastes like...........corn 🤣

Starting off the day with a cold brew coffee with butter pecan creamer and a bowl of Dark Fragrant in my Rossi again.

This Dark Fragrant is a real gem. Some people don't know, but Rattrays was a big inspiration for McClelland. Dark Fragrant really scratches that McClelland itch for me. I was a big fan of their 2035 Dark navy flake. Even though 2035 didn't have perique in it, it gives DF that edge of spice that I liked in 2035.

Some Escudo Navy De Luxe then I am going to finish off the tin of Moontrance. Both with my favorite piping drink, local roasted coffee.

I'm smoking Windjammer that I bought on Ted's recommendation. I'm amazed that I really like this tobacco. I normally shy away from Perique blends. Though I like haunted Bookshop. This is nice and smooth with a sweet back note. I'm really impressed.

Another great recommendation from Ted.

Windjammer another blend I forgot about but have a jar sleeping since 2022. I might just crack it open and fill a bowl…great blend. Enjoy

One of my favourites. When it calls for a certain something, Windjammer can fill that gap better than most. It’s dependably good!

I was all over the place with my tobacco picks yesterday, so I’m feeling like mellowing it out a little today. I’m smoking Watch City Mistletoe Jam, their 2022 Christmas blend. I’m smoking it in my newest to me calabash.

Ken Byron Ventures, The Patience of Dr. Silence.

This is tobacco of the Gods.

The pipe is irrelevant 😄

I’ve had a similar response with nearly every KBV blend I’ve smoked.

I was jarring up some of those 7oz cans I got. Decided to try a bowl of Captain Black Cherry. This was the first time someone walking by said my pipe smoke smelled wonderful. Quite a bit milder flavor than I expected. Would be a good choice when I'm in public smoking.  Not bad at all.

The last bowl (😭) of KBV, The Patience of Dr. Silence and I’m going to enjoy the hell out of it!! Might well be the last time I ever smoke this heavenly blend, as I can’t find any online and I think it’s no longer produced. Does anyone know anything different?

In the meerschaum bent apple, of course.

kbven.com

It’s available, or was when I just checked. His blends sell out quickly and sometimes it’s necessary to keep checking back until they are restocked. I’m not sure if they ship overseas, I didn’t find any info on that from a quick check.

I check his website often, I’ll keep an eye out for it to be back in stock, I’d like to get some more myself. Often his blends are only out of stock for a short while.

It’s back in stock as of my typing this, 2/23 (or I suppose it would be 23/2 for you 🙂) at 7:50 EST.

Cool! Mylar bags actually, good heavy weight ones, good for long term storage. You will also get a sticker for the jar lid.

A C & D Steamworks sample from our kind fellow forum member, Ted. In a Stanwell Night & Day.

Another great blend! It started good, then got better. By mid-bowl I was in the zone and getting caramel, nuts and hay, through peppery, spicy retrohales. It’s smooth and creamy, spicy and sweet. A fantastic blend and one that I will be looking for when I next order.

Unfortunately, it seems to be sold out everywhere. I might have to wait till they release it again, (assuming they will).

I'm smoking some Haunted Bookshop in my Savinelli 114ks.

Just wanted to put this out there. BnB tobacco and moms cigars.com seem to be the same place. They do something I don't like. You can purchase a tobacco online and then days later they tell you it's out of stock. I'm waiting for them to restock 8oz tins of HB. They offered to send the Royal Yacht and Exhausted Rooster now but then I'm paying more shipping.  Not of fan of that practice.  😩

I'm smoking some Peter Stokkebye Oriental Supreme in my Savinelli. A nice light English blend.

I’ve been entirely too busy today. I’ve squeezed in some PS 81 here and there, but I’m just now sitting down for my first decent pipe of today. I’m smoking Space Force Episode VI in a vintage Stanwell Hans Christian Andersen.
