Home for the weekend with my wife so my VaPers and English blends get a couple days off too. Moontrance in my Baraccini.

Started out with Brown No.4 in a clay pipe. Wow! It’s strong! My cold is definitely on the way out! 😄

Now, I’m enjoying my favourite tobacco in my favourite pipe: Carolina Red Flake with Perique; in my meerschaum bent apple. Bliss!

I'm smoking some Sutliff 507c in my Ukrainian 3 piece. Really an enjoyable smoke. Want to age some.

It arrived! I hope you enjoy it! The shop told me that it has been their best seller for 50 years. In fact it outsells all of their other blends put together.

I've decided to save up for a couple years before looking for a Calabash or meerschaum. After reading your posts about them, I think getting a good one is going to be worth it.

Settling in for my night pipe. Cold here so I'm in my garage with an electric heater instead of my preferred front porch. Moontrance for  starters then a small bowl of Mithril.

I’m smoking St. Bernard in my newest acquired calabash. Checking out different blends in it. So far it’s smoking everything wonderfully.

I'm outside dyeing some more pipes. Man that alcohol based dye is so runny.

I'm smoking some Golden Extra in a cob.

That dye is runny and every time I’ve used it, it found its way onto something near me. It’s almost like it’s trying to escape. 😃 Although I have not tried it myself, I have seen some really cool results of staining pipes with it using an airbrush. I will get around to trying it someday, the idea of being able to fade it in certain areas makes my mind spin with ideas.

Having a bowl of Cornell and Diehl red Virginia cavendish cased with Dow's Tawny Port wine in a little lacroix pocket pipe.

I'm back outside now smoking some American Patriot. Nice English blend with a touch of burley. Using my Big Ben Olympic.

Thanks to Ted I have a few new ones to try. Tonight is Mac Baren Vanilla Rollcake which has occupied a spot on my list for a while. First bowl out of my Mr. Brog is most enjoyable. The coins are always fun to break apart too!

I’ve been sticking with St. Bernard all day and am continuing with it. I’ll probably finish what’s left of the tin/jar before I move on.

Another new one for me- G&H Bosun Cut Plug in a corn cob- with my Grandfather's old Case knife. What an interesting tobacco- strong and a lot going on. It will take a couple bowls to get a good handle on it. Delicious so far!

Having another custom blend. Equal parts cornell and diehl red VA cavendish, Sutliff Red VA ribbon, and watch city simply orange. Overall conclusion.....meh.

I'm finishing the day with GL Pease Quiet Nights. I just love this blend.

What is the general consensus on bowl size for English Oriental blends?  Is it my imagination that they seem better in a big wide bowl?

Different and good, which I consider pretty high praise. There is a lot of homogeneity in the blends on the market that we encounter and it’s often only subtleties that make a difference. I had hopes that these tobaccos would be a bit outside the norm and so far they are, in a good way.

Happy International Pipe Smoking Day! Started my day in typical fashion with Mithril and coffee. Moved on to a new one- John Aylsebury Dragon Flake. It is wonderful, but now I am craving pancakes.

To celebrate International Pipe Smoking Day, I’m opening one of a number of samples provided by someone I already consider a friend - I hope you don’t mind me saying that, Ted! 😄

Ken Byron Ventures, The Patience of Dr. Silence, (what a great name!) This can only be smoked in a pipe I love: a certain meerschaum bent apple (surprise, surprise! 😄)

Thanks again, Ted, for your generosity. This tobacco smells fantastic! Can’t wait to try it. An update to follow in a little while.

It’s very good indeed! I understand why you suggested I smoke it when in the mood for 1792. It shares some of the flavours, but in a much more subtle way. It’s a tobacco to explore, for sure; there's plenty of complexity to go with the subtleties. It’s what pipe tobacco should be. A great smoke!
