It seems that as of late, most of my tabac preferences are OTC, codger-ish blends. This blend definitely falls into this category. I purchased this blend at the Tinderbox in Palm Springs, CA.
The aroma in the bag has that distinct old-school, burly, nutty aroma. The cut is kinda different. There are some nice perfect cubes and then some small, irregular shaped leaves. I want to say that it's a mix between a cube cut, and a granulated. It packs rather well, I mostly codger scoop this blend.
I dried it out for a few hours. Has taken to fire pretty well, usual char and re-light. It's a pretty standard burley based blend. Its nutty, buttery and consistent all the way down. The proprietor of the Tinderbox said that there is a Cavendish in the mix and I see it, but I can't readily detect its flavor. All in all, I can't really say its all that complex.
Burns down to a fine, white/grey ash. No dottle at all, not wet. There is some mild bite.
I gave some to my buddy, he said it was boring and tasted like a cigarette. I think its a great all day blend, I get where he gets the ciggy flavor, but my buddy exaggerates.
It pairs with most lagers, it works well with my lawnmower beer. It surprisingly, went well with tequila. Same buddy and I did a few shots and this tabac was a nice fit.
All in all, if you like codger, all day blends, its works well. I'd say, if you are at a Tinderbox and they have it, try it out.
