Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. Bobs Chocolate Ready Rubbed

(3.67)
The main characteristics of this ready rubbed flake come from the 8% latakia included in the blend and the smooth chocolate aroma. Brazilian, Zimbabwe, and Malawi Virginia leaf make up 82% of the blend providing a mild/medium smoke cooled with the addition of 8% Malawi sun cured and 2% Malawi Burley. The cocoa casings and chocolate top flavours are rounded off with vanilla providing sweet notes.

I detect almost no differences in this and the flake version, so this review is essentially the same as BCF. The smoky, woody, earthy sweet Cyprian Latakia, and lightly nutty, earthy, woody, toasty burley come into play in small doses, as does a discreet hint of vanilla. The grassy, earthy, tart and tangy citrusy, lightly woody and tangy dark fruit sweet, floral Virginias are the most obvious tobacco components. The whisky is hardly obvious, but occasionally, you'll sense its presence. The chocolate flavor has a deep richness, but is mild enough that it won't steamroll over you. The Lakeland scent is lightly present, and not nearly as overpowering as it is in other G&H products, but it's just enough to help form a well rounded smoke. The toppings do seem to have a very slightly lesser effect here than they do in the flake by just a hair. The strength and taste levels are medium. The nic-hit is a couple of steps behind that mark. Won’t bite, and has no dull or harsh moments. This is a little closer to broken flake than it is to ready rubbed, and almost burns at a moderate pace, cool and clean with a very smooth, consistent, mildly sweet and savory, floral flavor from start to finish. Requires a few relights, leaves very little moisture in the bowl, and will burn to ash. Has a lightly lingering pleasant after taste and room note. Not quite an all day smoke, but it is repeatable.

Beautiful rich tasting quality leaf.Tastes even better than flake form after further rubbing out and pouching.Very easy light.Whatever smoking cadence employed it stays lit wonderfully.Mellow chocolate taste first third of bowl then deepens to a very nice sweetish Virginia taste. No bite whatsoever. Smokes dry with no gurgle leaving a fine white ash.

If Ennerdale Flake is floral (and it is ) and turned up to 11 Bobs is lowered down to a 3 which should be acceptable to most Virginia lovers. A mil dish smoke ideal for all day smoking imho.Top notch.

Gawith Hoggarth - Bobs Chocolate Ready Rubbed.

Ready rubbed? I wouldn't go that far, Bobs Chocolate Chunky Broken Flake would be a far more applicable title! Although it says chocolate when I smell the pouch I can only really detect an added sweetness that's not necessarily chocolate but it's a lot easier to identify it as being so in the smoke, especially when the retro-hale technique is used. Seeing as the 'ready rubbed' mix consisted of quite chunky pieces of broken flake you may expect them to hold too much moisture but this isn't the case, even though it includes some fairly hefty flake pieces they don't seem to have excess water and this makes ignition easy.

As it burns it does so quite slowly leaving behind a white ash. Out of the different tobaccos I can only really pick the Virginia out, the Latakia and Burley are added in such small quantities it makes them seem redundant. Now nicotine, it's smack on the middle amount. It would please N smokers yet not overwhelm taste only folks. The room note is pleasant enough, not that chocolate like albeit not bad.

Bobs Chocolate R' R' is a great smoke so I will happily highly recommend it. Four stars.
