Scandinavian Tobacco Group (STG) Sweet Dublin Irish Whisky (Yellow)

(2.67)
Sweet Dublin is a modern Danish mixture with a sweet flavour. Our tobacco blenders have selected a range of high grade Virginia tobaccos and black cavendish for this mixture. This mixture was finalized with Irish whiskey added to its flavour.
Notes: Now relabeled Special Dublin. Originally an Orlik branded production

This was an impulse purchase several years back on a business trip for a casual smoke. It turned out well. To get down to a description, the metallic pouch opens up to mixture of short, light and dark brown ribbons and perhaps 15% black cavendish. The pouch note has some mild Virginia notes and a whiff of whiskey, Irish of course. The pouch says Body=3 (medium), Aromatic taste=2 (light), Room note=2 (light) and that’s about right except body is more a step towards mild. I let it air out a bit although it was smokesble out of the pouch. This is a higher end aromatic with good leaf. Sweet but not too sweet with a bit of the whiskey coming through to the palate as well as some tobacco taste. There is a touch of honey applied to this as welll. It did not bite, smoke hit, or wet the pipe. The mouthfeel has some body and creaminess, I think from the black cavendish and probably from some white burley (although not a listed component). I think long ago this tobacco was sold in the US. If it were to return I would get some occasionally for when I want a no fuss, light aromatic based on good leaf. For reference to my tastes in this area, Amphora Black Cavendish usually serves that role now. I see that it has been renamed Special Dublin since I made my purchase.

I bought this one a little randomly while I was looking to diversify my tobaccos. I've been a pipe smoker for over 20 years and I'm not a big fan of aromatic tobaccos. But I smoke whiskey aromatics from time to time, with pleasure, since as a young man I discovered Peterson Irish Whiskey and Davidoff Scottish Mixture, two old loves...
The Special Dublin Mixture (that's its new name in the pouch version) is, let's say it right now, inferior to these two. But it's also a bit cheaper and, for the price it costs, quite lovable.
The thick and airtight pouch allows perfect conservation, I opened mine almost two years after purchase and it was still perfectly fragrant and moist. Speaking of humidity, I recommend leaving the pouch wide open for a few hours before smoking the first pipe.
The ribbon cut is classic, rather thin and short, it allows you to easily pack your pipe. A large percentage of mild Virginia, and a little bit of black Cavendish (20%?) to strengthen the tobacco, but it remains a light blend.
The whiskey topping smells strong when opening the pouch, but its taste is not very strong in the mouth. You can still smell it when you smoke. Honey is rather difficult to detect, except for the sweet taste which can tingle the tongue if you inhale too hard. By the way, let's warn beginners who often smoke too quickly, there is a risk of a small bite, as with all aromatics...
The nic hit is mild, everyone can try this without fear, no headache expected.
The smoke from combustion is very light and the room note is pleasant, the kind that those around you easily appreciate. The smell quickly disappears from the house after smoking, if you open the window for a few minutes.
For pipe tobacco specialists and experienced pipe smokers, this will not be their favorite of the year! But it is an unpretentious tobacco, not unpleasant, which can be smoked from time to time to diversify the experiences...

Bag note is quite sweet with the whiskey topping. nice ribbon cut packs easily. I think my pouch has been in the shop for a while as it still has the older name sweet Dublin. The toppings are a bit faded. This I found quite nice . I was able to taste the Virginias followed by the black cavendish. Required a few relights . Surprisingly I found this to be a lite aeromantic not overdosed with toppings. Not sure I would smoke this all day but its defiantly a nice easy mild smoke. Nic hit is very mild. Would be a great smoke for someone just starting. 3 stars
