For 75 years My Own Blend has supplied pipe smokers with a huge variety of blends which is celebrated with this special anniversary edition. A beautiful mix of Virginia tobaccos which are flake pressed then rubbed with a deep black cavendish and an added subtle flavour of Creme De Cassis. A semi aromatic with great charm!

Medium Mild to Medium Mild to Medium Very Pleasant

Paul Olsen - 75th Anniversary Blend.

I'm finding myself enjoying aromatics more and more lately! Up until recently the only aro's I'd have piped were vanilla ones with the occasional alcoholic with maybe a cherry one very rarely, but I've been enjoying some decadence over the last few weeks.

It seems almost redundant as I always highlight with M.O.B. that the moisture's good, but hey ho, it's perfect! I like the appearance of the blend, it contains lots of shapes and sizes; big ribbons, small ribbons, chunky broken flakes, and tiny broken flakes.

The main taste is the Crème De Cassis, this is backed up by some Virginia hay and some Black Cavendish vanilla, but the Crème De Cassis leads the flavour; it's sort of a sharp berry/currant taste. It's not too strong, but it has a good piquancy to it. The thing that I, and many folks, hate about aromatics is the bite, but this doesn't give me a jot.

The nicotine's medium and the room-note's superb: it has a great liquor quality without being too much.

This was ordered mainly for review purposes, but now I can see myself ordering some more for my cellar. It's a definite four star aro'.

Highly recommended.

Mild to Medium Mild Mild to Medium Pleasant

The Virginias are earthy and dark fruit sweet with a little grass/hay and citrus. The black cavendish is richly smooth with a drop of vanilla that underscores the smoke in a support role. The Creme De Cassis topping has a deep berry taste with an ample black currant flavor. It’s very obvious, especially, the berry, in the first quarter, but as you get past the half way point, the tobaccos assert themselves and the berry recedes a bit. The black currant remains, but less intensely so. The nic-hit is mild to medium. Won’t bite no matter how fast you puff. Burns easy with few relights, cool, clean, and very smooth with a little creaminess. Leaves very little moisture in the bowl. Has a very pleasant room note and after taste. An all day smoke if you so choose. Two and half stars due to the inconsistent change in flavor. If the entire smoke was like the first half, I'd give it three stars, though the second half is pretty good.
