The Virginia cavendish offers a little grass, toast, honey, and citrus. The black cavendish provides a little brown sugar. The vanilla topping is more obvious than the caramel, though it lacks a little depth. They do sublimate the tobaccos a bit, though the Virginia cavendish is always noticeable. Won’t bite or get harsh. Hardly has any nicotine. Burns cool and rather clean at a reasonable pace with a fairly consistent flavor. Leaves a little moisture in the bowl, and needs an average number of relights. Has a pleasant, short lived, routine after taste. Two and a half stars.

I have a fellow pipe smoking friend in the Sarasota, Florida area who sends me new blends to try and review whenever Gary Bennington whips up another new one. Sheriff is not new, but I just never reviewed it for some reason.

For those of you who remember the old Pipe Pub franchise pipe shops that were around the country up until the early to mid 1990's, Sheriff is extremely similar to their Blend #2. A bright and dark cavendish cut Burley that smoked sweet yet still tasted like tobacco. I always liked #2 and I like Sheriff even better because the tobacco in this blend tastes more like... well, tobacco. Mild but with enough body to keep the palate interested.

I've been a pipe smoker for about 4 years now and not only does Bennington Tobacconist have the best tobacco, they also have the best pipes. It's always a cultural experience shopping there. Bennington Tobacconist has such a variety of products and their personnel are always so patient, kind, and knowledgeable. They are also very hygienic when it comes to the packaging and handling of their tobacco. It is an honor to be one of your customers. Thank you!
