I have a fellow pipe smoking friend in the Sarasota, Florida area who sends me new blends to try and review whenever Gary Bennington whips up another new one. Roanoke is not new, but I just never reviewed it for some reason. I'm not sure I'd call this straight Virginia a ribbon cut as is in the descriptive - more like a crimp to me but maybe it is sometimes cut a little differently. Very mild and subtly sweet Virginia flavor... and you can't beat the price! Another thing I like about Roanoke is that it can be mixed with a little Perique for a marvelous VaPer. The Virginia does not hide the Perique but still has enough of its own flavor to stand out unless the Perique is added with a heavy hand.
