The burley is very nutty with some chocolate, molasses, wood and earth. It also has a light rugged edge. The Virginia has a few earth notes to go along with a little grass and tart citrus as a supporting player. The strength and nic-hit are almost in the center of mild to medium, while the taste is a step past that mark. The same was true of the original. Burns clean and fairly smooth at a reasonable pace with a very consistent taste, and leaves little dampness in the bowl. Requires few relights. The Match avoids the harshness of the rougher original, and unlike the original, which could bite when pushed much, the Match doesn’t grab at your tongue. The flavor is a little deeper in the Match, though it is the same in both. If you puff fast, you may encounter a cigarette note here and there, but less so than the original. The tobacco in the Match is fairly dry as was the original, so it needs to be puffed as a reasonable rate, unless you hydrate it. Has a lightly lingering, pleasant after taste and room note. It is an all day smoke. I rated the original at two stars. This isn't quite three stars, but it's close enough to rate it as such.

The pouch aroma is like a sweet muffin.

I found the taste to be burley, without the bitterness I often find in burley. There is a very light sweet topping. In fact, it's so light one could almost call this a non-aromatic.

Model isn't a flavor bomb.

The smoke can be a bit harsh towards the bottom of the bowl.

My palate can't distinguish all the nuances that the other reviewers found. For me, I can't really call this an interesting smoke. It's rather one-dimensional. But it is an okay smoke. Good for when you're puttering around in the garage.

If you like burley, this could be your every day, all day smoke.

By and large, I agree with the previous reviewers (JimInks) comments on this match blend, with the exception that the flavors weren't as strong as he found them to be. I guess I was expecting a deeper, more definitive burley taste. Not a bad blend, just another one of those baccy's you can fill your pipe with and forget about.

This is the last match blend on the docket for me, it's time to move on to other tobaccos. I'll give this a strong two stars (I usually round down, rather than up).

Keep on piping!

A nice burley without the back-of -the throat "hitch" that can be experienced in some burley blends.

Pouch note is brown bread, light brown sugar and a slight hint of acetic acid like aged balsamic vinegar.

At light it starts out with flavors of cocoa, some hazelnut, light molasses and sun-dried hay. Room note and aroma is nutty, with hints of leather, rye toast and to me- minerality like wet sidewalk.

Halfway through the bowl the hazelnut flavor evolves into toasted walnut, the cocoa mutes and the wet sidewalk flavor found in the aroma begins to express.

Mild body and flavor, smooth and pH-balanced. For those wanting an alternative to OTC burleys, Match Model fits the bill, but with less overt topping.
