Take this review with a grain of salt, due to the bite I can't get past 3 bowls!
As has been afore mentioned, it contains only a TINY amount of black cavendish. The majority, practically all of Extra are brown ribbons. The pouch has to be the hardest pouch to open in the world. In the end I sliced it with a knife as the seal wasn't for breaking; almost a 'warning' for the vituperative smoke that awaits!!
The description says 'smooth, aromatic pipe tobacco'...... wrong. It should say 'harsh, hot, bitey, pipe tobacco'! The flavour's one of a sweet Danish Virginia Cavendish; not black Cavendish. It has a breadiness to it which goes nicely with this honey-sweet character. Not too unpleasant a taste. But after a few puffs I notice the bite, which steadily increases; subjective? Sure. But what isn't subjective is the heat...... it gets very hot very quickly. The burn from it's consistent but fast; don't worry about relights!!
This is not an aromatic and contains almost no Cavendish. It seems to be close to a straight ribbon cut Virginia made in Germany. Not sweet in the Danish style. Does not smoke hot for the cut and composition and doesn't bite. A very straight forward smoke. Good but not special. Certainly overpriced. For less than half the price Drexel is very close, maybe better, although in flake form.
Note: The description above mentions black cavendish as an ingredient, but any pouch I have smoked only contained bright leaf.
This blend seems a bit on the high end price point for a pouch product, but I assure you it's worth the money. A very uniform wide ribbon cut bright Virginia, a toffee like top note is there to greet you in the pouch and the pipe but it's not over dressed or over bearing. Good dose of vitamin N and burns down to the bottom with no relights. A very modest blend that under promises and over produces, should be on every VA smokers list of must trys.
