Alfie Turmeaus Alfie's Blend
(3.00)
Original English black cavendish and selected sweet Virginia tobaccos join forces to result in a medium strong mixture. A small proportion of smokey latakia with a hint of Oriental Turkish, and aromatic perique add a distinctive note to this subtle and harmonic blend.

Alfie Turmeous - Alfie's Blend.
The level of moisture in the un-lit tobacco is fabulous! The mixture appears to contain a fair amount of each variety all in quite even sizes. On the description it says that there is only a small amount of Lat' but when I smell it it's the Lat' that dominates the aroma.
The hydration amount makes Alfie's Blend start with ease, and once lit I think it is quite a complex flavour. In no way is the taste reminiscent of the aroma, the Lat' is no where near as pre-eminent! The tobacco flavours are all noticeable but you do have to 'search' for each one as the taste does seem a touch crowded. The burn is very steady, it's a good one if you require time to sit and maybe read without having to keep stopping to re-light. Another good area is tongue-bite, it only occurs very slightly if smoked with excessive vigour. As the bowl burns it seems to develop a more buttery taste, with an almost cedar back note, it actually goes up a star for flavour half way through! The nicotine is quite strong in this one, an applicable blend for lovers of "N"! The room note has a pleasant toasted quality to it. it's not too full it just has a rustic ambience to it.
The only reason I am rating this 3 stars is the changing in taste as it burns, if it were to have the buttery quality all the way through it would get 4 stars but the inconsistency in flavour is the feature that abates the score!
