The tangy dark fruit sweet, earthy, woody, mildly vinegary red Virginia takes a small lead over the tart citrusy, earthy, grassy, lemony orange Virginia. The latter also has a minor sour note. The spicy, raisiny, plumy perique plays a support role. The strength is just past the center of mild to medium, and the taste just hits the medium level. The nic-hit is a step past the mild mark. Won’t bite or get harsh, but does have a rough edge here and there. Needs some dry time. Burns cool, clean and slow with a very consistent, well balanced flavor from top to bottom. Needs a bunch of relights, and leaves some moisture in the bowl even when given time to air out. Has a lightly lingering, pleasant after taste and room note. Can be an all day smoke.
