The only tobacco I taste is a little nuttiness from the burley. The toppings are hazelnut, raspberry, and something else that I can't identify. Has little nicotine. Doesn't bite, but can burn a little warm if you are a fast puffer. Burns just a little slow with a consistent flavor. It's a little syrupy at times. Even with dry time, it can burn moist and leave a little dottle. You'll always have to wipe the bowl out after a smoke. An all day smoke.

This tastes very similar to other Lane blends. However, nothing about this one puts it above or even with 1Q, LL7, or RLP6. It's decent enough when mixed with some high nic five brothers.

I tried this blend recently to compare it to a Lord of the Rings type blend that I had heard quite a bit about. Just for hte record, I believe they are one and the same.

RHQ-3 can, of course, be found under a plethora of names in bulk. It's pretty much as I expected, and just as described. It is a cool smoke if you don't rush it. There is no real tobacco flavor, and the nutty - berry flavoring can be enjoyable, if the bowl is small enough. The taste never changes, and it has a definite tendency to get a bit bitter toward the end of the bowl.

Since it is heavily saturated with humecants (sp?) the end of the bowl isn't much of a concern anyway - it's going to be goopy and wet.

Load it up, smoke maybe a third, and when you're bored with it, toss the rest. Dry the pipe for a month or so...

Lanes RHQ-3 V.20

This is my review on RHQ-3 because the first one was actually my first review ever, I thought it to be a narrow review and very excited when I wrote it out, plus it was based on fresh wet RHQ-3 and after a couple months the flavor has changed very much but not for the bad I'm very surprised, it helped it out that's for sure. First off it does have quite abit of PG in it when first delivered so it is one moist tobacco blend and with that produces a large amount of steam which can altar the taste and cause tounge bite. Stored in a mason jar and two months later it takes on a whole new thing which is good and I'm smoking it this very minute as I write out this review. I disagree with some of the reviews because it is not that bad and this review is intended for the novice pipe tobacco smoker, even one who has not yet smoked this blend but do read on. When you open RHQ-3 bag you are greeted by a nice berry Cavendish smell and one should allow at least a 1/2 hour dry put before they load there bowl, smoking this blend alittle drier is important, do not smoke this blend like a locomotive it will bite and taste awful I will admit but if smoked lightly (sipped) it will deliver a nice taste all the way down. The first light will give a nice raspberry taste and the undertones of a nuttiness with that good old fashion black Cavendish base delivering a soft sweet taste. It will pretty much keep the same taste all the way down its not complex and will not get the deeper tobacco taste until midway down the bowl and even then its not to strong but its there. It is smooth amd has a light nicotine hit to it with a pleasant room note and all in all its a pretty good smoke. Its like a very lighter version of Lanes Black Raspberry but way less berry and alittle more burley nuttiness and not as sweet but I can see the idea is about the same with a few tweaks, at least that's what went through my head when I smoked and compared the two but the both of them still different from each other. I do recommend this blend because its still good and even better for a beginner smoker amd I can see a seasoned pipe smoker getting bored with it pretty easily I know I do that's why I smoke it every now and then BUT I do smoke it. I prefer Lanes Black Raspberry over RHQ-3 I think it has more going for it and is sweeter with a better taste all in all. If you already have RHQ-3 but really dont care for it there is a couple things you can do to make it taste a check of alot better and finish it up by simply adding Middletons Cherry to it at a RHQ 60% Middleton Cherry 40% that will give it some spice and will smoke pretty dang good and if you don't care for cherry add Prince Albert to it 60-40 or so same thing and that will just improve the blend for smoking all in all then you don't haft to just let it sit around and not smoke it. To be fair there is better aromatics out there this is not a masterpiece from Lane amd theres not a huge cult following for it but you never know cause everyone has different taste buds. Some like Mixture 79 for example and I think it taste like they put green Nyquil in it so there you go lol!!! Have a good night and God bless all you fellow pipe smokers. .

Lane Limited - RHQ-3.

The ribbons are quite coarse, brown, black, and golden, in colour, nicely hydrated, with a strongly aromatic pouch aroma.

It lights up easily, giving a good burn, with a cool smoke. The toppings smother the tobacco flavours, making this a red blooded aromatic. I get quite a pleasing nutty note from the additions, some of the raspberry acidity, but the strongest flavour's more exotic: like papaya, or something. And atop of these flavours sits a sugary, sticky, sweetness. The smoke's thick, and I get no bite.

Nicotine: mild to medium. Room-note: pleasant.

I couldn't give this anymore than one star:

Not recommended.

This is the second Lane bulk tobacco I smoked, 1Q was the first. I am not impressed. It smokes a bit hot, and it has some bite, but at least it's not quite as moist as 1Q. It has a nice scent in the baggy. It seems to have a slight ghost of flavor where 1Q had none. I can only label this as "inoffensive". But what a disappointment that that's the most positive characteristic of a tobacco! Cheap, but not worth the time. Not recommended.

This is a decent tobacco for the new pipe smoker, it has no real strong taste and it can be smoked with total disregard for pace, and you will not have a sore mouth. If you can as a new smoker slow yourself down there are some nice flavors to be had, hazelnut, and berries (maybe raspberries). I would not want to smoke this one often unless I had enough pipes to rotate every two weeks, because there is a fair amount of goop at the bottom of the pipe when finished. This tobacco is very average and by no means exceptional.

This is your typical Lane bulk blend. Great aroma, pretty wet, not much tobacco flavor...but this stuff is good! For some reason, this is my Christmas Morning smoke, so I always keep a little on hand. It's flavored with raspberry and hazelnut and is a 50/50 mix of golden and black ribbon. This was also the first bulk blend that really got my attention. It can bite if you use it for an all day smoke, which is probably why I don't smoke it more often. Taste and aromawise, it's a fine blend.
