Iwan Ries Three Star Red
(1.63)
Extra light taste for today's lifestyles. Very calm and unhurried in burning qualities, and very quiet on the aromatic side.

There's a weak nutty burley taste that is not helped by dull grassy Virginia. There's a minor vanilla taste from the black cavendish. Burns a little hot, and can bite if pushed too hard. Leaves little moisture in the bowl. The flavor is extremely mild and fairly boring. It's not awful, but it doesn't have enough going for it to really recommend it either.

Another irc blend thats basicly burley , black cavendish and a little virginia and some other stuff. This one had a little bite at first then mellowed as I got into the bowl . the banner lite has a burley woody flavor where this one the wood isnt there as much and you taste a little more of the cavendish . not bad . A common American aromatic that smokes dry . gonna try the blue next.

Another 1* for an IRC 3*. As with their other 3* blends, this one was also unusually dry upon receipt and smoked hot. Although it's my fault for buying a blend sold as'extra light taste', this one is just too weak and mild for my enjoyment.

I like this better than Blue, as the topping is toned down. It is very pretty in the pouch. Still, you must sip slowly, or you will pay dearly...which is not very relaxing for me. It's certainly worth a try if you are looking for an old fashioned mild aromatic.

My favorite of the Iwan Ries blends, it still wasn't very good compared to other things on the market. A little bitey, a little hot with more of a tobacco flavor coming through than the aromatic casing. Not bad, but I won't go through the trouble of ordering it again.

Read my review of 3-Star Blue and turn down the flavor and heat a couple of notches--that is Red. Great for novice pipesters, but veteran puffers will crave something with a little more flavor.

See my review on Three Star Blue. This is a less aromatic version of their most popular Blue blend.
