The tasty Irish Whiskey topping does sublimate the tobaccos, though it doesn't drown them out. The grassy, citrusy Virginia forms the base of the blend. The nutty, molasses sweet burley plays a secondary role. The unsweetened black cavendish adds a light sugariness in the background, though it's not very noticeable much of the time. The nic-hit is very mild. Won't bite or get harsh, but being a thin cut ribbon, should be smoked at no more than a moderate pace. Burns cool, clean and slightly fast with a consistent, fairly one dimensional taste, which is not a draw back nor a back handed compliment. Barely leaves any dampness in the bowl, and requires very few relights. Has a pleasant after taste and room note. An easy going all day, sweet smoke that doesn't wear out it's welcome.

As someone with a weakness for Bushmills, I decided to give Erin Go Bragh pipe blend a shot, as it seems folks are generally fond of their stogies (which I've yet to try).

Pouch note is downright edible. You can smell the whiskey, but also something much sweeter, like cake. I was honestly torn between smoking or eating it. The room note is sweet and pleasant, but a bit on the heavy side.

As with most whiskey cased blends, Erin Go Bragh can be a tongue scorcher, especially on lighting, but mellows as you get further into the bowl. It also burns really, really wet. So the last quarter can have a lot of gurgle and be a challenge to keep lit.

The flavor is where Erin Go Bragh shines, and while it's a tad one-dimensional it's a pretty great dimension. A super smooth and creamy combination of the whiskey, vanilla, and carmel. Like it's casing, it goes down easy, with just the right amount of sweetness.

As stated, it won't knock you out with it's complexity or vitamin N content (although it does sport a decent amount), but it does deliver a mild, mellow, and pretty satisfying smoke. Something that's welcome after a hard day's work -- with a glass of Irish whiskey, perhaps...

This is a very tasty aromatic that burns cool and dry to the bottom of the bowl. Mostly Virginia, with a little burley and a touch of black Cavendish. The whiskey flavor is just right and not overdone. Aromatic smokers will love it and the rest of us will enjoy it as a change of pace. A one dimensional smoke but excellent in it's own right.

Lots of flavor here and most of it is very good. I'm gonna nitpick a little though. There's a note of flavor at the top end that slightly bothers me. It's not the topping, but the way the topping interacts with the Virginias, which I think are of the golden or bright variety. Just seems to be a little clash there. Having said that, I've still enjoyed smoking this and give it a full recommendation.

Mild to medium all the way around. Burns well straight from the pouch.

I thought pouch tobaccos weren't supposed to be as tasty, non-biting, easy burning, yada, yada, yada and so on than their more touted, expensive counterparts.

This stuff was in a large sampler from P&C and well, wasn't real high on the priority list to try. I tried this thinking ok, once I scorch my tongue and have a typical bad experience, especially with a whiskey flavor, I can have an I told you so moment and chunk it and not be out that much.

Gosh was I wrong! I ended up enjoying it so much that I went ahead and ordered 6 pouches from CI @ 2.49 a pouch. It was such a pleasant smoke that it has earned a permanent spot in my rotation. It burns clean and tastes wonderfully balanced; not too liquorey, if that's a word, or too sweet.

It was just super delicious, to me anyways. I've tried Borkum Who? and it left me sad, crisped tongued, and not wanting any more whiskey cased tobacco. For the money you can't go wrong taking a chance on this "pouch" goodness.

For my money and smoking pleasure this sure hits the mark and the spot!

Scandinavian Tobacco - Erin Go Bragh Irish Whiskey.

One from the selection of blends I bought in Majorca.

LOL, what the hell does Erin Go Bragh mean? Cue Google: Erin Go Bragh, an Irish patriotism meaning Ireland Forever ;)

Anyhoo, the review. I don't consider myself a fan of whisky aromatics but this ain't bad! The whiskey accounts for the leading flavour but isn't harsh or bitter. It gives a fragrant sweetness without any acerbity and only a little alcoholic sharpness. It has more vibrancy for the initial quarter bowl, then calms down a touch. The tobacco flavour constitutes mainly VaBurs, the black Cavendish is virtually non-existent. It burns cool, without any tongue bite.

Nicotine: just above mild. Room-note: nice.

Like I said, whiskey aro's don't normally 'float my boat', but this, easily, deserves three stars!

Recommended.

This stuff came as part of a 3 pouch sampler from pipesandcigars. I wasn't expecting much from this blend right off the bat, it being on the cheap end of the spectrum and coming in a pouch. However I was plesantley surprised by this stuff. My previous experience with arromatics that use some sort of alcohol as the flavoring have been mostly negative. They normally smoke hot and wet. But this blend is mild, sweet and dry. Like most arromatics it will bite if pressed to hard, but if you keep a steady cadence and don't push it you're in for a treat. I get a lot to of the whisky flavor for the top half of the bowl and for the last half that dies down and you're left with a mild, sweet smoke. This isnt an overly complex blend by any means, but it's straight forward and solid. I'm about to the bottom of this pouch and I'll be ordering more shortly!

I purchased a pouch of this as a kind of "what the heck" buy. After having smoked several bowls I can say it's pretty good. I'm usually not big on aromatics but this is done fairly nicely. It's rather one dimensional and the topping doesn't come through in the smoke that much but for just a few bucks what do you excpect. It's easy to light and stays that way. I was able to puff slow or fast really no difference. Other reviewers have mentioned tounge bite but it never happened for me. I probably would not purchase again just because it's not my normal type of smoke but I will finish this pouch and enjoy doing so.

It... didn't suck. I'm not a huge fan of flavored aromatics but I do love whiskey so I thought I'd give it a go and... it didn't suck. It still had a bit of an unpleasant, chemical taste and tends to tongue bite if you don't pay attention.

I've honestly yet to find a really great whiskey-topped toby and this is no exception.

A decent smoke that burns fairly cool for an aromatic. It also burns well. The taste is not overpowering but remains pleasant. Out of the pouch, the smell of whiskey that may have been used as a topping is notable; however, after lighting, this blend has a milder taste. For the money, this is an excellent buy that I would recommend for anyone interested in whiskey themed tobaccos. There are blends that cost far more that are not worth half as much.

OK,, this is rated appropriately,, 3 star average. This is a good moderate to mild strength tobacco, little to no whiskey flavoring to me. There is some flavoring, but can't place it,, maybe fig-essence? IDK but it's a mild easy smoke. No need to look for harshness or difficult-to-smoke pricey tins even if you are a vet-pipester like me. What do I have to prove by spending lots of money and getting tongue bite while trying hard to like some "high end" status tobac???

This is a light VA/Burley with a little top-note, great name and marketing though.. I'll certainly smoke some on St. Patrick's Day with my pint(s) of Guinness,,,... LOL

Update: Okay, my first round with this tobacco led me to shred it on review. I received another pouch in a sampler and I can say my experience was a 180° difference. It smoked nice and the whiskey note ebbed and flowed nicely as I worked my through the bowl. I felt it only right to provide an update and revise my review. This pouch will definitely be knocked out and enjoyed.

I guess sometimes you find a tobacco that just isn't a good fit for you. For me, this one is it. I found nothing palatable about this tobacco. Quite frankly, I found it to be my least favorite of about a hundred or so thus far. But, I can honestly say I haven't really gone with a whiskey before either. Trying to give this a fair shake I tried it new, at six months and now at a year with the same result - not good. I didn't enjoy the taste, the burn, the lack of tobacco flavoring or its inability to pull through even as a nuance. For the first time I have one batch I will not be finishing. Again, this may not be a good fit for me and based upon other reviews that must be it.

I got this in a group purchase of several tobaccos for a discounted price. It scorched my tongue on the first try but either I got use to it or it eased up as it dried out.

As it burned less I liked it more. I guess that goes without saying but I already said it. The whiskey flavor mellowed out and by the end of the pouch I was sorry it was gone.

It is sweet but not sickeningly so. I've read that it has gunked up at the end of the smoke for others but I didn't seem to have much of a problem with that.

Over al I enjoyed the smoke but I don't think it will become a regular on my rotation. My rotation consists of Carter Hall followed by Carter Hall.

My first whiskey flavored tobacco was Borkum Riff about 40 years ago. I did not like it and avoided that type all this time. Erin Go Bragh is different. A milder flavor where I can actually taste tobacco. Lit easily, burned well. I suggest a slow to moderate puffing cadence because some tongue bite is definitely lurking there. This is not a bad blend, but I probably won't buy any more. It's a decent OTC type blend, I'm just not a fan of whiskey flavored blends.

I just recently had the pleasure of discovering Eileen's Dream an Irish Cream aromatic that had been sweet and delicious. Now while Erin Go Bragh is supposed to taste like Irish Whiskey, I thought heck, at least it is a another Irish liqueur, so my comparative hopes were high.

Inside the pouch was a nice compressed wad of some decent smelling tobacco. It had a fairly cheap cherry-ish smell, but I could use my imagination to see where a sweet whiskey could be lurking. Everything lit and performed well mechanically. The flavor was akin to the initial aroma with a bit more bite, and yeah it had a sort of whiskey flavor, though it was more of the bottom shelf variety.

This is likely not a high quality product, relying more on a syrupy topping to mask a good smoke, yet it was still OK.

This was the first tobacco I have ever tried being new to pipes, and I wasn't unsatisfied by the taste. I was, however curious while smoking the tobacco, because I received a taste of charcoal about halfway through each bowl. I enjoyed the tobacco very much, and the hint of Irish whiskey as I am a huge fan of Jameson. The pouch note was great, as well. I enjoyed opening the bag every single time just to smell that sweet smell of whiskey. It was a great experience.

I can not wait to get into other tobacco, whether it be aromatic, English blend, or Virginia blends. I am excited for this long trip and will keep reviewing as I try new blends.

As for the Erin Go Bragh, I may just have to buy another pouch, and try it again sometime.

Right out of the pouch this tobacco smells good, with just a hint of whiskey. At first, it seemed to bite a bit, but after the first puff or two, the bite went away and the smoke was milder than I had expected. Its taste was not overwhelmed by the alcohol flavor, in fact, it was barely noticeable, which was nice. I did have a hard time keeping the bowl lit and had to relight it several times before I was done. In retrospect, however, I may have packed the bowl to firmly, which may have been the cause of my problem keeping the fire going.

This tobacco was my first shot at a whiskey flavored weed. The tobacco is mild and the flavoring is fairly prominent in this one. EGB is moist in the pouch but I didn't dry it. The cherry stays lit with a charring light then another spark. No bite to be had. Consistent throughout the bowl with a whiskey flavor and a sweeter flavor, call it cake or pastry but the whiskey is not alone here and the combination is nice. EGB won't disappoint or knock anybody's socks off but will deliver a good pipe while mowing lawn or feeding the chickens or some such. The tobacco here is similar to Cest La Vie, Skandinavik, and maybe even Troost. This leads me to believe that STG uses the same base tobacco with different flavoring for these blends. They are all good but no epiphanies are to be had with any of them. Based on my experiences here, I most likely won't be smoking any more whiskey blends. I prefer my bourbon drank, not smoked.

"One dimensional", that is the best description I read of someone's review of this aro. It stands as a solid whiskey flavored tobacco, better than others I've tried. The vanilla/molasses notes hang in the background and disappear if your rhythm quickens. I was hoping it would keep its spot in my rotation, as I desired an additional aro in it, but alas. If you're simply wanting an easy smoke with a mild whiskey flavor, this is a great candidate.

Wow! Wish this was available OTC around here. Pouch note is a mild sweetness, and you can certainly smell the whiskey. I have tried other whiskey cased blends and they were too bitter or astringent from the alcohol. I personally am not a straight whiskey drinker so if you are and expect straight whiskey flavor it’s not found here. However you can certainly taste the whiskey on the light and throughout the smoke. This flavor is not alone as it’s complimented by sweet undertones which help to mellow and round the experience. This sweetness comes through in a delectable room note. My wife didn’t complain.... Definitely one I will try again and will most likely buy some pouches and cellar them in a jar. Quite enjoyable, really. It’s easy to puff away and it doesn’t even nip your tongue.

I’m surprised to see the number of reviews that say this tobacco is a biter. I’m admittedly a pretty heavy puffer and I had no problems. That being said, I was smoking it an old deep meer I have that tends to smooth out the rough edges of a tobacco. I guess I could see how it would bite if you puffed really hard on a cob, for instance.

The flavors are all very subtle - this is not a delectable dessert tobacco so much as a generally pleasant, balanced all-day smoke.

First puff, a strong alcohol taste like a fine brandy tobacco. Second puff, a strong artificial chemical taste. Third puff, amazingly the chemical taste dissipates and the strong liquor fades. The remainder of the bowl tastes similar to Irish Cream. Although the whisky does fade it is still very much present all the way to the end. Fortunately the chemical taste disappears after it rears it's head at the start. The tobacco is very moist and requires drying to smoke properly, however appears to be of a decent quality. This is a great blend in all aspects. It smokes cool, it tastes great, it has a good room note, and the price is awesome! I got it in a sampler from P&C, and I must admit that I really wasn't looking forward to trying it at first. I've never been a fan of whiskey blends because they always burned too hot or tasted like burning charcoal. When I opened the pouch, I was immediately greeted with a mellow whiskey aroma. The tobacco itself was a mixed cut that was densely packed in the pouch. It was at just the right moisture as well - no drying necessary, which is rare for a cheap aromatic. It packed wonderfully into a cob.

It lights on one match. The flavor is rather one-dimensional, but isn't that why you smoke whiskey blends anyway? I got some interesting notes: nuts, wood smoke, a hint of dried fruit, maple syrup. It was a great smoke! I can taste burley in this blend very well. Overall, I would recommend it for anyone looking for a good aromatic that provides a change of pace at a bargain price. I'll keep some around.

The Virginias are very citrusy. The overall taste is reminiscent of that of an old fashioned. There is a subtle burley flavor, the standard nutty quality. The casing is there, but plays a background role to the tobaccos. The old fashioned qualities make sense as there is a whisky flavor, a sweetness from the cavendish, and the Virginias give it the citrus twist. The burley rounds it out and makes it feel like a tobacco rather than a boozy vape. This is not much like the cigar of the same name (which I enjoy and piqued my interest in this blend), which makes sense as I believe they are entirely unrelated.
