There’s very little tobacco taste present, except for a little sugar, a couple blades of grass, and a light toast quality. The vanilla topping is mostly what you observe, though I detect a touch of caramel as well. Hardly has any nicotine. The strength is mild, and the taste is a step or two past that mark. Won’t bite or get harsh. Burns cool and clean at a reasonable pace with a very consistent, though not deep, sweetly smooth flavor. Leaves a little moisture in the bowl, and requires an average number of relights. Has a short lived, weak after taste, and very pleasant room note. Can be an all day smoke or a mixer. Two and a half stars.

I had purchased this tobacco in a Rite-Aid drugstore near my home and I was pleasantly surprise by how smooth this tobacco is. There is absolutely no bite and if you like aromatic tobaccos that burn slow this one did it for me.

Great value and very good blend. Black Cavendish is obviously not the new kid on the block when it comes to common tobacco blends but there is a reason it has remained popular so long and that because it adds nothing unwanted to a smoking experience and takes nothing away in satisfaction. Although the Virginia Gold brand is not the top shelf of Cavendish it is still in my opinion the best Black Cavendish you can get pound for pound when you figure in cost.

Wow! My goodness, this stuff is good. Flavor is a little hard to describe, but I'll try. Dark roasted vanilla bean. Maybe dark toasted vanilla bean. I get a hint of dark roasted coffee bean sometimes. A sweet caramel note. None of that is exactly right, but it's not exactly wrong either. Like I said, hard to describe. This just made my favorites list. I can smoke this all day, every day and never tire of it. You just have to try this. Smokes cool. No harshness, no bite. Very smooth.

Here's the only down side. It's wet and sticky. Doesn't dry well and requires three, sometimes four, lights to get it going. Trust me though, it's worth the extra matches. Once going it stays lit. Only a slight amount of stickiness left in the bowl afterwards. That's ok, I've got a cob dedicated to it.

Mild in body. Mild to medium in flavor. Wonderful tobacco and priced right.

This BC was actually marketed with the name “Virginia Select Black Cavendish” by Lane Ltd. This blend is lovely. Very mild and delicious. All day smoke, stays lit although it seems like it’s dry but I guess it’s the sticky aspect of its nature. Burns cool when sipped and has a wonderful aroma. Never get tired of it when rotating between blends. Awesome as the last bowl of day as well as anytime really. Fans of BC have probably already gotten ahold of some. Can’t go wrong with this BC from Lane LTD. Sorry I gave no description of the flavor intricacies as I’ve just returned to pipe smoking after 38 years. I must also state that to me, I cannot remember any of the blends back then that can hold a pipe lighter to the few blends I have tried since returning to the pipe. Also the selections today are unreal compared to then.

This is a good tobacco...Good taste .... But it is wetter then the toilet seat on a commercial airliner. It took a week in the 100 degree Texas sun to dry it out.

I agree with Marshall Smith that this stuff is good and that the low cost should add a star. Is this a 4-star blend in the abstract? No, but for the $9.25 I paid for a 9-oz. bag, it definitely is. At the P&C.com "regular" price of $29.95 for the bag, this would have been clinging to three stars by the fingernails, but value means a lot.

A little too wet and it does not dry out well. I'm not a big vanilla guy, but the vanilla in this is appealing. I mean, who wants Latakia all the time? With a pinch of Perique added, it was even better. Some stouter Burley also adds punch, like Smoker's Pride Rich Taste. Just a damn nice smoke. I probably prefer the VG Vanilla because of the stronger Virginia and Burley presence and less moisture, but this one is good. And I agree that it gets milder as it is smoked.
