Gauntleys Of Nottingham Red Lace

(4.00)
A punchy blend of fruity red Virginias, spicy perique and deep earthy Kentucky. As with most of our previous perique blends, red lace uses a large helping (20%) of this precious and powerful leaf. At this level, perique is sour and very spicy, so a sweet fragrant base of red Virginia is used to create a balance of these contrasting tastes. The earthy Kentucky is added to give the blend some depth & body, like a good stout or porter.

This is a fairly strong blend. Has a lot of body to it. The flavors are exactly as described, fruity, spicy, and earthy. Not much sweetness, but that seems to work well here. Gets a little earthier as the bowl progresses and that also works well here. For those who love natural tobacco flavors this fills the bill. Thanks to StevieB for sending me this beauty. This is a truly enjoyable smoke.

Medium to strong in body. Medium to full in taste. No added flavorings detected, just great tobacco goodness. Burns very well with no drying time. I used only cobs with this blend as it seemed to be a natural fit.

Gauntleys - Red Lace. Quite a full bodied smoke.

There is no messing around where the pouch note is concerned; it's strong, earthy, woody and gives off a true whack of tobacco. This itself is a good representation of the smoke that's on its way!

Once lit the flavour is great. I don't get any undernotes or nuances of anything false, instead what I get is a steadfast tobacco taste. Although this contains quite a large quantity of Perique it doesn't seem to have developed too much of a ketchup/vinegar flavour, it's been well rounded off by the Virginia's grass notes and the smoky nuttiness from the Kentucky.

Nicotine is a above medium for me. It's not too strong, like some blends where inhaling it makes you feel practically drunk!

The room note's good for me. It has good character to it without becoming over the top.

Throughout a bowl I find the burn good. It does so consistently and evenly with the smokes temperature being about medium.

In all, this is a top notch smoke. Four stars.
