A mild to medium aromatic with some complexity. The tobacco taste from the Virginia is lightly grassy and citrusy, though it’s mainly covered up by the other components. The burley provides very few nutty notes, because it is sublimated by the vanilla from the various grades of black cavendish. The vanilla is not overpowering, and is nicely complimented by a sweet honey bread and cocoa taste. Has little nicotine. Won't bite or get harsh. Rich in flavor, burns at a reasonable pace, cool and clean with a smooth, consistent flavor. Leaves just a little moisture in the bowl, and needs an average number for relights. Has a very pleasant after taste. The aroma from the smoke reminds me of a bakery. A well made dessert smoke that doesn’t overwhelm you with its sweetness. I’d classify this as an all day smoke for that reason.

A real beauty right here! A vanilla lovers dream come true. My wife absolutely loves the smell of it when I smoke it. It’s permanently in my rotation...a real treat. If you like vanilla you WILL love this stuff. I sure do...a first class tobacco. Enjoy!

Sutliff Tobacco Company - Vanilla Royale D61.
One of the worst things about D61 is the moistness of the tobacco from a fresh pouch, but if you can stomach that it's a great quality vanilla aromatic.
Now, I must confess that I have a bit of a soft spot for vanilla tobaccos', and this is a winner! The vanilla's easy to notice, but it's not too sticky, there's still some tobacco flavours backing it up. SOME, not loads. I get a nice Burley flavour, a tiny amount of Virginia-grass, and a good black Cavendish flavour; but, I'm not sure if the vanilla I taste comes from the black Cav', or a casing! D61 burns well, providing it's been aired, failure to let it dry causes it to smoke wet.
The room-note's quite typical for a vanilla aromatic: pleasant, and the nicotine's also typical: mild.
I'll happily highly recommended Vanilla Royale:
Four stars.

As a newer pipe smoker, I am mainly exploring the different blends (I favor aromatic blends, although I am dipping my toes into the non-aromatic blends now) to find what I like. Opening the bag, what I smelled was vanilla (not really strong but noticeable). The flavor I tasted was again vanilla, but it was not overwhelming, with the description of this tobacco I was expecting a stronger taste. I did not have any tounge-bite with this blend.

Well, if you don't mind vanilla shoved up your keester and blown out your nose, this is the blend for you. Frankly, I'm a bit tired of vanilla used as a flavoring. But, that's just me. I found this to be way too moist; the bite was horrific, and the taste much too sweet. If smoking could cause diabetes, this would be the tobacco to do it...Never again.

Taste and smell together reminds me of glazed baked donuts. Not an everyday smoke or you will get burned out on the blend, more of an after dinner smoke. Flavoring does not overpower a good mild tobacco taste. I dig out about a quarter of an ounce every few months, put it in a Ziploc sandwich bag with one of those tin covered water buttons and it's ready to go the next day. Keep it moist and sip it. 3 stars.
