Watch City Cigar Balkan Mild
(3.00)
We toyed with a lot of names for this one...."kick in the Balkans" didn't make the cut.(Blend is just too mild). Balkan Safari was just too corney. In the end, it was just plain old Balkan Mild This is a one shot batch of Crumble Cake "based" on the original Balkan Sobranie....but with a twist...an added exotic spice is added to complement, not overpower, the Latakia. Presented in Crumble Cake format.

My one ounce order of Balkan Mild came in a neat little four inch brick that arrived fully intact. Unlike Penzance or Smoker's Haven Krumble Kake, this well made kake is made up of mostly darker brown leafs with some lighter and darker ones mixed in. It breaks apart nicely and I prefer it smoked pretty dry. BM is described by the blender as mild Balkan with a bit of added spice. I think the taste of the spice is coriander?? Also even though it's touted as a mild blend, I think it's much closer to medium in terms of strength. The Latakia doesn't play the lead role, although it does make its presence well known as there is more than a condimental amount in the blend. In terms of taste, there is quite a bit of flavor in Balkan Mild. It's nice that a B&M is taking the time and effort to produce a krumble kake. I hope that its one that Watch City keeps around for a while as it is one of my favorites from Watch City thus far. Three and a half stars.
