Dark, strong Kentucky flakes that are mixed with fine tobaccos from Virginia. A pinch of Louisiana perique added this specialty, which offers just for lovers of classic English mixture. A completely convincing tobacco for the experienced pipe smoker. [Translated from German]
"Natural taste" really describes this one. No top flavorings, very little if any sweet casings added.
The Virginia makes up about 60% of this mix( you can actually see this as the square flake is stacked with a layer of burley and perique surrounded by the bright Virginia's) and it gives a gentle sweetness without bite, thanks to the other tobaccos.
The kentucky isn't really smoky, but it isn't really a plain burley either and falls somewhere in the middle. Providing body, strength and those classic nutty, cocoa notes, which meld with the sweetness of the Virginia nicely.
The perique plays backup and gives dimension to an otherwise plain(but not displeasing) smoke. Just a touch of pepper and some fruity notes.
A nice smoke for lovers of natural tobaccos. Kind of the more mild mannered cousin of some popular va/bur/per mixes. Sits right in the middle of medium strength and flavour, definitely an all day type of smoke. It's a little bland and tame for my tastes, but I still think they really nailed what they were going for here. I think it only comes in 100G tins from Schneiderwind in Aachen Germany. But the price is good at 20€ so it's worth a try. But you can always as for a sample to make sure you like it.
This is just ust a brief review on this after smoking it side by side with Orlik Dark Strong Kentucky: IMHO it is the same blend. I cannot find anything to differentiate it.
