Many of my father’s experiments as well as blends for various customers were lodged and annotated by hand on 3 x 5 index cards kept in a couple of metal boxes. Occasionally, one would make it from the box onto the counter. This is one of those and hence the name 1-11 for experiment 1-11. It is similar to 300 but its further mellowed with additional cube cut burley and Virginia flake.

The earthy, woody, very nutty sweet cube cut burley is the star component. The very tangy citrusy, mildly grassy and earthy Virginias also have a little sugary, tangy dark fruit as an important supporting player. The strength is in the middle of mild to medium, while the taste is just past that level. The nic-hit is just past the mild mark. Won’t bite or get harsh. Burns cool, clean and a little slow mostly due to the cube cut burley. Has a consistent deep, rich flavor from start to finish. Leaves little moisture in the bowl, and requires some relights. Has a very pleasant after taste. An all day smoke. Three and a half stars.

Smoked two bowls out of a new corn cob pipe. I may have smoked it to fast because it had some bite to it. Smokes cool and dry and long in the bowl. I could not detect any sweetness to it just lots of burley. Was told it had a fruity room note to it.
