After trying the highly aromatic Nice n? Easy, the very traditional Scottish blend, and the surprising N° 6 Light English, I find I have become rather impressed with the Torben Dansk range of tobaccos. Elegantly blended, with top grade leaf, their mixtures are tasty, unpretentious and delightful. N°11 is another very good blend, slightly on the mild side, laden with Orientals and Virginias, and with just enough Latakia to give it a deeper edge.
Like many English style smokers, I am always on the look for a blend that is rich enough to be smoked at any time, without bothering those around nor being subjected to a police inspection. This blend is very close. Dry, cool, with that nutty richness I so enjoy, it burns very well but it doesn?t generate a burnt-rubber or camp-fire aroma that many dislike in English type blends. Unlike N° 6, Mellow Mixture is rather straightforward in its taste and components. It is basically light brown and tan in colour, with some black strings thrown in Tin aroma is subdued and temperate. Packing is easy and it lights with no problem.
Far from being a complex smoke, it has a fresh lightness and a simplicity that does not impinge on the smoking experience. I have tried this blend at the office, and no one seems to mind. It may not produce the incense like nuances that more traditional English style blends conjure, but clearly it still is an Oriental/Va. blend, with all the vividness and elegance one would expect. Recommended as work-day tobacco when in the mood for a close-English-like experience.
