Peter Stokkebye Black Cavendish (No.201)

(3.63)
Intense steam and pressure unleash the light aroma of this mildest of blends. Loose cut. The sublime flavor of vanilla bean extracts imbue this mixture with a deliciously mild taste and aroma. This fine blend is ideal for either enjoying it as is or for blending.

The sugary black cavendish has been infused with a deeply rich, creamy smooth vanilla bean extract. There’s also a little brown sugar, and a honey toast hit present. Won’t bite or get harsh. The strength is mild, while the taste is in the center of mild to medium. Has little nicotine. Burns reasonably well, cool and clean with a very consistent flavor. Requires an average number of relights. Leaves a little moisture in the bowl. The after taste and room notes pleasantly linger. Can be an all day smoke with little trouble.

I love a good black cavendish and this one is quite nice. There is no "sour" note like you sometimes get with others, matter of fact there is a slight "bubble gum" flavor. Sounds gross I know but as an aromatic lover, I like it. A bit dryer than other blacks, it is still on the moist side but it lights and stays lit well. For around $2 an oz, definitely worth a try if you enjoy the dark tobaccos. There is no bite, it burns well, and has a wonderful flavor. Truly a good tobacco, maybe not great, but worth a smoke. If you are a novice smoker, give this a try, I don't think you will be disappointed. BTW not sure if the tobacco is air cured or not, could not find that information. Looks like it defaults to that so if you know more about this tobacco, please correct. Thanks!

Another "morning" smoke for me, in a pipe dedicated to mild, aromatic blends. I really liked this one, in that it had more flavor than a couple of others I've smoked recently (i.e. Stanwell Vanilla and Davidoff Red Mixture). No bite. Additionally, it's really affordable (always a plus).

Peter Stokkebye - Black Cavendish (201).

I love vanilla aromatics and this one's top notch.

The ribbons are jet black, on the coarser side, a little sticky, and smell sublime: sweet vanilla. The lighting's easy and it burns well.

The mellifluous smoke only need's a few words: sweet, smooth, cool, with plenty of vanilla. I get no bite whatsoever, even when strained. The build of the smoke's quite heavy. It would make a smashing desert smoke.

Nicotine: very mild. Room-note: nice.

No. 201? A four star aromatic:

Highly recommended.

My local tobacconist (mission pipe in san jose) is calling this Danish Mild. It is all black. The neighbour asked what is that bubble gum smell. Another said it smells good. It's good on it's own but the taste is very mild. I usually add PS-24, sweet dreams, or some other lighter tobaccos with all blacks. For me the nicotine is very mild. I like this tobacco.

After trying several straight black cavendish types looking for a good mixer for "public consumption" blends I whip up, I settled on this one as my favorite of the type. Smoked by itself, it is everything you expect out of a black cavendish for better or worse: sweet, slightly moist and sticky, smooth cool smoke, and crowd pleasing aroma. What it lacks is the bitterness / sourness of many of the straight black cavs I tried.

Some of the reviews mention a vanilla topping, I don't quite detect it. At least not to level of several that have "vanilla" in front of "black cavendish" in the name. There are toppings, but they are subtle and varied enough to not be overbearing or domineering. Smoked straight, it's rather one dimensional as a result. Starts and ends in roughly the same fashion. The "not-so-overbearing" toppings make it an excellent mixer, and the lack of bitterness is appreciated for the same reason. It does leave a little moisture in the bowl, but the moisture was the least of any that I tried in my hunt. Due to the lack of aggressive toppings, it leaves almost no ghost aside from a little sweetness.

Of all the types I tried, this was just slightly better than Cavendish in the Woods from pipesandcigars.com, but leaps and bounds better than Lane or any of the others I tried out.

I give this a 4, as I found it to be the most agreeable of the straight black cavendish breed and ideal for mixing. If you dislike cavendish or aromatics of course, you'd hate this.

Peter Stokkebye Black Cavendish is a good aromatic mild tobacco with a smooth creamy vanilla taste. It's a good smoke on it's own & a great mixer with other tobaccos, that will bring out & enhance their flavors.

You'll love the vanilla aroma when you open the bag. It's a bit moist when fresh, but not generally a problem to keep lit. It burns cool with no bite, unless you overdo it, and holds flavor throughout the bowl. The flavoring reminds me of home-made vanilla ice cream.

If you like mild aromatics, this is a tobacco you will truly enjoy on it's own & as a blender it's fantastic. It is a nice mellow vanilla that not only pleases the smoker, but also those around you.

I did not care for this tobacco by itself. Too sweet and mild for my taste. But I was googling around and happened upon a recommendation to mix three parts Carter Hall with one part of PS Black Cavendish. It is delish. I have been smoking it for three days straight.

My go-to for years has been Stokkbye's Black Cavendish mixed 50/50 with Lane's 1-Q. I wonder what the history of this great Black Cav is. Hmmm.
