Abenacki is a respected East Coast tobacco blending emporium but its New England Apple mixture falls very short of the mark - at least this 2 oz. sampler pouch I tried. There's no real apple aroma when you open the pouch and the smoking flavour is tasteless.
Many reviewers expressed dissatisfaction with John Middleton's Apple Blend on this webpage because of weak aromatic performance - this one I would rate a couple of cuts below Middleton's Apple.
If there is the "crisp" taste of apple fruit in this tobac its hiding somewhere or the blender skipped the topping when this particular batch was worked up. It's just a flat, unimpressive, neutral tasting burley that drives sweet aromatic tobac lovers such as myself right into complaint mode.
I put a few thin slices of Red Delicious apple in mine and will wait and see if it perks up, or maybe I should try mixing it with dry apple chips from the fruit dehyrator. But you really shouldn't have to experiment like that and risk wrecking what little there is of this blend worth salvaging.
