Last year I came across several ounces of this blend that had been aging in sealed tins since the early 1970s. I had long wanted the opportunity to try some of the "real" Dunhill blends, those that were blended by hand in store before the outsourcing began. I wasn't disappointed.
My Mixture 850 proved to be exactly what I imagined an old Dunhill blend would be like. It has a delicate taste and aroma, with a certain softness from the aged leaf. And though it has little of the latakia that is so often associated with Dunhill blends, it makes me think of old-time pipe shops and the kinds of mixtures one could find within.
Since this blend is so rare, it's not a regular smoke for me (once my seven or eight ounces are gone, I would be hard pressed to ever find any again). Because of this I tend to cherish the blend whenever I smoke it.
