Sutliff Tobacco Company Mellow and Mild #18
(2.50)
A truly extraordinary blend. Vanilla and hazelnut are applied to the best burley, golden cavendish and toasted cavendish, resulting in a pleasing taste and a delightful aroma. Flavorful yet mild.

The pouch note is very pleasant, to me it had a brown sugar type essence. The tobacco is a course cut and thus burns rather slowly. It burns quite well with no tongue bite or harshness and the nutty flavor stays consistent. My pipe remained cool and only required one relight. Could be an all day smoke. Satisfactory!

Although smokers of straight Virginia, Burley, or Latakia infested blends will not particularly gravitate to this new Altadis offering, it is a very pleasant smoke. Yes, it is sticky in the pouch and contains a lot of added flavoring, but it stays lit well and is as mild as any tobacco I've ever smoked. The wife said it left my breath particularly sweet smelling.
So, next time you have an appointment with the dentist, you might smoke a bowl of this first.
PS.... You can puff on this stuff like a locomotive and won't get tongue bite. Do be sure to sop up the goo at the bottom of the bowl with a paper towel after smoking.

Sutliff Tobacco Co. - Mellow and Mild #18.
The blend's presented as a coarser ribbon, not like some where it's a boarder line shag! The pouch-note's only slightly aromatic, it doesn't smell heavily cased. I have no problem with the moisture of it fresh.
The smoke then. Unlike a lot of aromatics it isn't a heavily cased, sticky, mess. I notice much less vanilla in comparison to the hazelnuts. Because there's more nuts, compared to the vanilla, the smoke has a coarser character compared to a lot of aromatics with vanilla in them. The Burley goes nicely with the hazelnuts, and there's a honey sweetness from the Cavendish. I find the burn good, being medium in speed and quite cool. I get no tongue bite.
Nicotine: mild. Room-note: pleasant.
Mellow and Mild? A nice enough blend, but I'll only somewhat recommend it because it becomes boring after a very short amount of time:
Two stars.

This blend is on that our pipe club received as a sampler. As a disclaimer, I find most aromatics to be less than desirable, this one is an exception. The topping is applied in such a way that the taste of the tobacco is not fully masked. The blend does as most Altadis aromatics burn a bit hot and does sour a bit at the bottom of a large bowl. The tobacco does not require a lot of attention, and burns well in most pipes. The true value of this blend is the blend ability of this tobacco. It cuts down on heavy aromatics well enough to even let this English fan enjoy a occasional aromatic.
