Burak's AAA Burley was one of the first, if not the first, Burley tobaccos that I used as a blending agent to add body and strength to some of my favorite English blends. Burak always had a stash of the stuff on hand and it came in thick bulk bags. By itself, there was not a lot of flavor but plenty of body and an enjoyable smoke. Additionally, unlike many Burley tobaccos, there never was any bitterness in the smoke. Just quality, straight forward Burley. Not to start any rumors because I only heard this second hand; but there was so much of this left when Burak retired that another blender purchased the balance of AAA Burley to use as a condiment for some of its blends.
A good clean quality Burley. The only Burley that you should smoke. Ed blends this up himself and lets it marry for a year and a half. Packs easy burns well. Good natural tobacco flavorGive him a call and order some now. You won't be sorry. Simply terrific for the Burley lover a must. And good for the English smoker who wants a good smoking tobacco with a different pace. Ans good for the aromatic smoker also. The Nicotine level is not to high can and should be smoked all day. As with all of Ed's blend smoke this very slow to appreciate the blending. No bite when smkoing it at any pace. But easy dose it so very right.
I purchased this from Pipes and Cigars, and was listed as "Blending AAA bulk -this is mellow, nutty Burley that produces a good amount of smoke. It can be used to lighten the flavor or a blend, increase the smoke volume, or can slow down the burn rate. It can be smoked straight for a gentle and smooth experience." I exchanged some emails and further found out this product comes from Sutliff and is cataloged as 513AAA Bulk. I tried to add this tobacco to the tobacco reviews Sutliff portfolio, but it was rejected. I assume because there are "versions" of this elsewhere, this is the closest match I could find.
Jar note of cocoa powder, dead vegetation, and earth. Tobacco is a medium ribbon cut, and a mix of light, medium and dark browns. Tobacco is wet and will need a bit of drying. Burns slow with a few extra relights. The strength is mild to medium and nic is mild. No flavoring detected. Taste is mild to medium and very consistent, with notes of very woody, dry and very earthy, mild cocoa, mild vegetation, mildly spicy, bready, a mild nutty background note, and a mildly spicy but smooth retro. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is great.
